...we can still finish in the top half.

    Just saying...

Now lets be honest, I think many people would have been satisfied with 10th place at the start of the season. So let's have some faith, get behind the boys on Sunday and make it happen (maybe)

Would require West Ham losing at home to Reading for one thing...can't see it. It would also require us beating Arsenal, which is probably even more unlikely.

If that did happen I would still call this season a complete disgrace from start to finish

If we did finish 10th it would be like papering over the cracks. Regardless of where we finish we need to have a good look at ourselves in the summer.

Not gonna happen. The joker known as Alan Pardew has already come out on record saying he doesn't even care about our last match.

Proves the quality of the teams this season. Most teams are average to poor at best. Its been a horrible season. We have conceded so many goals and scored so few.

It shows that, with better tactics and a summer of strengthening we could have done very much better.

Agreed. I hope all the other sides around us win, and we finish 17th. If we finish 10th everyone will be like "it's ok everyone, we had a decent season, no need to worry".

Cant see us finishing 10th and cant see us beating Arsenal tbh but then stranger things have happened and the pressure is off us. I agree that wherever we finish now this has been a disappointing season which could have been so much better with more strengthening last summer and after 5th last season even 7th or 8th would have been a tad disapointing.
As for the league i'm not sure if most of the league is crap or just very even now after the top few. Certainly it only takes a luckier season to finish in the top 8 and an unluckier season to be around the relegation places rather than anyone being much better than each other. As for us, a few good signings last summer could have had us up there with Spurs and Everton fighting again for Europe.
As for Europe, obviously the C.L. is the place to be for money, coverage, excitement and the ability to attract top players but i dont hold with this Pardew like opinion putting down the Europa League. The fact is that we are not in a place to pick and choose the top trophies and winning the E.L. would still be massive for us, look at the delight even "Mighty" Chelsea showed on winning it and you cant win it without even entering it first. The fault this season was not the E.L., it was our failure to strengthen the squad enough last summer to prepare for it. I for one love seeing us play in Europe. New teams, new countries, great trips for the fans, extra games, extra excitement, extra opportunities to win something, extra money earned by the club even if that is only small especially compared to C.L. and extra attraction as a club to bring in new players. I even preferred the Intertoto to pre season games (and we did actually win that European Trophy). I dont want boring seaons concentrating on mid table obscurity, i want to see us win things and being in the E.L. gives us one more to go for if the manager bothers to put in the effort. Remember we only narrowly went out this year in the Quarter Final to a very good team who eventually only lost narrowly in the final to Moneybags Chelsea. As we have beaten Chelsea this season it shows just how close we are to being able to win that Competition.
We need some signings this summer to get back up there.

I'm not sure the problem is getting into Europe, it's what it means once you're there. I remember only a decade or so ago that the UEFA Cup was a fine tournament, featuring only those teams who start in the competition. It was lower grade than the European Cup, but not worth 1/20th of its' value. To qualify for it was a massive achievement. Fast forward to the 'modern' game and all its' money, and nothing means anything anymore. The top 4 places are more or less decided, and it's ludicrous that - yet again - we reach the final day of the season with all the attention being on the "race for 4th". Pathetic, really. To some clubs, us included, 4th is probably now the 'top prize'. We have no chance whatsoever of winning the league we're in and little chance of winning either cup; besides which, winning said cup carries little more than the dubious honour of Europa League, a contest where the winner starts in a different competition.

The format of the Europa League is utter crap. The Champs League needs to be reigned in. It's all just wrong and every year seems to get that little bit more wrong. Pardew, to his credit, brought this up but if they won't listen to a Premiership Manager Of The Year, what hope for the fans?

FIFA, and UEFA, are fckign clowns. The money men have sh*t all over football and still expect us to pay £100 a time to watch a team play for nothing; I fear these people grasp none of the problems and one day big stadiums like SJP will eventually just be an empty relic, a museum, as the realisation of having nothing to play for from day one dawns on a more disillusioned generation than the ones who currently populate the stands. Apathy is a powerful thing - just ask UKIP.

my solution, a very simple one.

no "consolation prize" cup for CL teams who dont get past the group stage, when your out, your out.

prize for winning EL?, a spot in the CL.
