We're now in the second half of the season. In my view, apart from a poor start, we've now settled down to be fairly consistent, solid, mainly superior to most other teams, but lacking in the final third. I can't complain because we're second and if FGR beat Woking tonight, that's where we'll be this weekend. Normally, we're stronger in the second half of the season so how we get on over Christmas before the transfer window opens will have a massive bearing on our prospects for 2015. I don't think we'll catch Barnet but I'd back us against any of our playoff contenders should we finish top 5. If Taylor and Blissett can really gel then I think we'll finish 2nd. What do you think?
I think our lack of fire power (as per) will deter us from any chance of a shot at auto promotion. We'll make the play offs which is a pure lottery. Overall I'm quite pleased with how we've coped in this league so far. Had feared DC was going to struggle but fair dos he's proved he's up for the job up to now. Our support under the circumstances has been outstanding but we need to go up. Another season in this league will test even some of the most hard core Gasheads.
So true....I hate to think what ST sales would be like for a second season in the Conference. I fear we'd just become one of the better Conference sides, but no more than that.
play offs minimum is where we should be at the end of the season. if all teams win their games in hand on us then we could drop to 8th which is not good but the points then from 2nd to 8th will just be a point or 2 in it. then i fear the lack of goals could cost us a play of place as it may come down to goal diffence to get in to the play offs. we got relegated on goal difference. we could fail to get into the play offs on goal difference. we have to let blissett, wall, goldberg settle in and taylor is scoring more recently. i still think we are 2 players away from being a real force so DC needs to strengthen further in january. maybe get LDV back or someone similar with his quick feet.
4 games going on tonight but only the FGR vs Woking game effect us. Half time score is FGR 2 Woking 1. So this is good news. Also FGR are still yet to have their 3 points deducted!
Not bad, Woking were one up. I think FGR have appealed - hopefully it'll be refused. I'm at a loss re Ellis. At one point he looked as if he was rehabilitated and back in the squad - now he's disappeared again
harrison situation is confusing me too. super sub this season and got 3 at dorchester. has shown promise. i know we havent scored enough goals as a team so we had to get in strikers who need to show what they can do. blissett and wall has been involved in all the games so far since they joined. taylor is very much liked by DC and has stayed involved. thats 3 strikers already named. 2 of these will start and 1 would be on the bench. he usually has 2 strikers on the bench so the 2nd striker slot is out of goldberg and harrison. goldberg got the nod ahead of harrison. im not sure what harrison has done wrong but it cant be that he is being rested as he hasnt started many games. i kjust hope he dont let this effect him but keep working hard on the training pitch.
As one Premier League manager said on Saturday "No one wins the championship in December." We're in a great position and WHEN we get motoring - and I'm sure we will - we'll cruise clear when it matters. We've usually finished the season strongly and given that we haven't lost since mid October and have only lost four league games all so far the second half of the season should be great. I'm looking forward to it for a change. It beats dreading the drop, that's for sure.
I can see that we just need something to click up front and we'll do fine, I'm just not sure what that something is. But if you'd offered me 2nd in the first week of December when the season started I would've bitten your arm off.
Agree with everything you say - most of us would have taken our current position at this stage of the season back at the start. I am frustrated at our lack of goals though,I keep expecting things to click suddenly and for us to give someone a good hiding and then kick-start our attacking ability but it just aint happening! As for Barnet,I agree its difficult to see us catching them, but we've all seen bigger leads slip away by other clubs in the past, particularly in the Premiership so never say never! Whats their financial situation like? Any chance of a 10 point deduction? (only tongue in cheek - wouldnt really wish that on them, and even if they were unlucky enough to be docked 10 points, I'm still not convinced we'd finish above them!)
i think we will finish above them. but i dont think we will finish top. they are yet to have a bad spell. i think out of the chasing pack, someone will overtake them and run away with it while barnet struggle to remain in the play offs.
Carrying on from yesterday... 3 games tonight in our league. Aldershot v Macclesfield Alfreton Town v Eastleigh Gateshead v Southport We need Aldershot, Alfreton and Southport all to win. Only Macclesfield can overtake us tonight with a win or draw. Gateshead and Eastleigh will still be behind us if they win. However..... Gateshead have 2 games in hand on us and are 5 points behind us. So if they win both then they overtake us. Its important that they slip up. Eastleigh have 4 games in hand on us and are only 7 points behind. If they win all 4 games then they will be 5 points ahead of us and just 4 points behind Barnet. So its important that they slip up.
The injury and premature return of LDV was the one thing we didn't need imo. He on his own was making us more threatening going forward. I regret to say i can see us returning to a solid defensive unit without any teeth attacking wise UNLESS we find a similar replacement in the Transfer window. If not i can see us remaining solid, rather frustrating and 5th would be my prediction. UTG
