The most amazing thing for me (as well as his great ball control) was how powerfully he could side foot the ball at range

I'd forgotten just how fast he was over 3 or 4 metres....his maximum distance flat out I think, but he could really get ahead of people. Not bad for a slow, unfit midfielder who used to stop at McDonalds for breakfast on his way in to training <laugh>

Mind you he has a long way to go to even be thought of as a worthy comparison.

It says it all that Xavi considered Le God his idol when he was young. Many of us share that in common with him i bet.

Apparently in an interview before France '98 Romario said that Le Tiss was the only Englishman that would get close to the Brazil squad, or something to that effect.

What a legend. Not just the goals, but every little nonchalant flick, backheel, 500-yard lobbed pass, screaming effort from out of nowhere. Quite simply, watching football is not as fun without Matt in the game. I echo everyone else, an absolute privilege.

I often look at similar teams like Leicester, Pompey, Birmingham, Middlesbro etc. Yes, they have all won silverware in recent years, but would I swap that for the hundreds of games in which I saw Tiss play? Not a fookin chance!! Just goes to show, glory is not everything.

Le Tiss always generated an air of excitement and anticipation whenever he played. He was worth the ticket price alone and would leave you amazed at something he did every game.

What amazes me is, if you watch the video where he scores against the opposition fans, how many applaud his goals. Blackburn and I think Villa especially.

Total genius, and I for one am so glad I saw his whole career.

    :)
