Well I would have taken a point before the game happily. A point at this Southampton team is an achievement. They deserved the point and maybe all 3 but we defended admirably. However how on earth Osvaldo was on the pitch to win the free-kick that lead to their equaliser is beyond me. He should have been sent off without 20 minutes to go which would have surely secured our victory. Not to worry we'll take the point and hopefully take all 3 next week at Palace (which I'm also going to, lucky me!) Player ratings Westwood - 8 Made a few fantastic saves and dealt with a coupe of awkward backpasses comfortably Celustka - 7 Solid performance Diakité - 8 Absolute rock in defence. Couple of shaky moments but overall very solid O'Shea - 8 Very good performance from our captain, him and Diakité had a lot to deal with Colback - 6 Decent performance, made a couple of surging runs but nothing special Giaccherini - 7 Composed on the ball and scored a good header, did his bit defensively also Larsson - 7.5 A very good central midfield performance from Seb, lovely corner for the goal and made some impressive interceptions Gardner - 5 Hardly involved when at cm, solid enough at rb Johnson - 6 Quiet. Lovely ball for Ji which should have lead to a goal. Tough game for both wingers as a lot of the work was defensive work Sess - 4 Very poor, completely anonymous. Future in doubt. I hope he stays but he should be dropped Altidore - 6 Frustrating day for Jozy ref certainly wasn't on his side cb's all over him from the first whistle, the same cb's who went down under the slightest of contacts from Jozy Subs Vaughan - 6 Tidy, made some decent interceptions Ji - 5 Showed some moments of class and then complete stupidity. Touch let him down on several occasions. Didn't get much pre-season so he's excused until he's played more games Wickham - 6 Did his job when he came on and won his headers

Just a niggle I think. I didn't pick it up until I saw him limping off when subbed. I imagine it was just a precaution

Southampton fan in peace! I think a point was an even result, I did think the ref bottled some decisions (giving Osvaldo a second yellow and Gardener a second yellow for his foul on Ramirez) so should have been all square on that front. You did defend very well indeed, we had much of he possession but lacked some quality finishing. Overall a good point for both teams involved. Best of luck for the rest of the season lads.

The trouble is we might defend fantasticly for 88 mins then someone allways ballses it up, we are going like last season again, god help us when we play Arsenal, Liverpool, Man c etc, not getting a right back or left back is telling now. Watmore does not have a number, so can he play ?. Another thing is a Huddersfield player got sent off at Charlton but the match was abandoned so does he miss matches?.
Saints fan in piece too - not sure about you Vaughan, but that was one of the most abject displays of refereeing I've ever seen. Your scoring so early kind of spoiled it a bit as a spectacle but you defended superbly. Re your Altidore point, he goes down a bit too easy for a big lump - someone with that physicality shouldn't be bullied. Best of luck for the season lads. Going to be a fun one for us all. Aye Ref was poor Yeah I think maybe he's expecting some of the shoves to be fouls, but he is a strong lad and should really be doing more. Studying how Lambert uses his strength would be a good start, although I do feel when Altidore did put himself about the ref just gave a foul against him. Bit of a catch 22 as when he didn't put his strength around he simply lost the aerial battle but when he did he was pulled up for it. Like I say he should study Lambert as he's much more clever with how he uses his strength Your deep crosses were your main threat, Ward-Prowses deliveries were brilliant, only problem was the heading was ****e bar one Lambert effort that brought out a marvellous save from Westwood. Osvaldo should calm down a bit! He got quite wound up a couple of occasions, even when he should have been sent off he was yapping in Mason's ear! Haha. I'm sure you'll see the best of him against teams that aren't as compact as we were today as tbh he didn't impress me much. Enjoyed the game and your fans were good as well either side of us in the corners. You guys will have a good season for sure. We need a win next week to try and get our season going.
