A successful season has just ended and the summer has begun. We've talked about additions to the squad, wingers, strikers, Michu returning, but little about who may go the other way. Who do you think will be targeted by other clubs and who might actually leave us in the summer. Targets imo will include Monterro, Gomis, Shelvey, Siggy, Ki, Taylor, Williams, Fed, Fabianski 'High risk' - those who actually may leave imo, include Gomis, Siggy, Taylor, Fabianski, Michu.
Interesting Monterro won't go - too many injuries to have made a sustained impact outside Swansea Gomis will go -may be encouraged to find a team in the Champions or Europa League. Shelvey will stay - (I'd give him away but realistically) he might be persuaded away by a West Ham or Palace Siggy will stay - too inconsistent to be given a better offer Ki highly likely to go - (unless Ash is sold and he's offered the captaincy) I think a European placed club will tempt him away Taylor won't go as long as we don't sign another left back - talk of transfers, which it seems are down to the player and his agent, are regular and we have yet to receive a single offer for him. If we sign another left back of similar or better quality he'll engineer a move Williams won't go - family is settled, he's settled at Swansea and Wales are close to qualifying under his leadership. IMO he and Rangel are the players most likely to continue at Swansea beyond their playing days. (Huge pay rise and European football could persuade him but I think clubs will see him as too old for a big transfer fee ... we hope) Fed will stay - has been very solid but stand out enough to draw interest. No World Cup looming so he doesn't need to be impressing Martino .. yet Fabianski will stay although I think he's the most likely to draw in offers from big clubs (as seen by Roma's interest) but goalkeepers are an odd and strangely loyal breed; if he's number 1 at Swansea and getting in the Poland team he'll stay Michu will go (unfortunately) either summer or Jan. Most likely to leave for bigger name clubs (or Euro) - Ki, Gomis and Fab Sideways moves - Dyer, Routledge, Tremmell or Cornell, Taylor, Monterro, Gomis, Shelvey, Siggy, Ki, Taylor, Williams, Fed, Fabianski 'High risk' - those who actually may leave imo, include Gomis, Siggy, Taylor, Fabianski, Michu, Jazz Downward spiral / loans - Leon, Bartley, Tate, Tiendalli TBH I don't see many of the first team leaving but could have quite a few bench warmers and reserve players moving out on loan or for lower placed teams. My only hope is we do get players in to the positions we need. Central defensive midfield right back cover were required before Laudrup left and a left back replacement for Ben should have been a priority as soon as he had departed. Monk needs to decide on how confident he is that Gomis will be good enough and healthy enough before trying to release or keep faith - so we will need a back up striker or first & second choice (unless we play two attacking midfield players as Brendon did with Sinclair and Borini). I dare say there'll be a few surprises.
Can't disagree with those names Stumpy but it's tricky to speculate. Who knows which club will come in with an offer and for whom? Montero has been injury prone so it's unlikely. Has Gomis been consistent enough to deserve a move? Not really. Fab was linked with Roma but I was told by his father-in-law that was just paper talk. Maybe a big Prem club will come in for him, who knows? He's happy here though and he's number 1. Williams has recently re-signed and is content here, saying he wants to finish his career with us. My own view is that Siggy and Ki will be targets. As for Shelvey, I hope we keep him. Probably brought us 12 or more points on his own this season with his range of shooting, deflected goals and so on - not something I'd "give away" personally.
Hope your right about not many going bob, but I have real concerns over Siggy/Shelvey. I think both have been pretty consistent all season its just their roles seem to change from game to game. In some games Shelvey is AM ahead of Siggy and visa versa. Thing is, both appear to play better just under the striker as an AM neither are visible at CM. I think Monk has tried to accomodate both by flip-flopping them between both roles hence my concern that one may leave in the summer. Hope I'm wrong as both have a lot to offer. Monterro fair enough. I only threw Gomis in as a talking point. Personally I think we're stuck with him as I doubt any club would be seriousely interested enough to pay his wages let alone buy him. Imo, clubs will be put off by his lack of goals, his injuries, I think this is his second strain since Christmas but I might be wrong and his feinting issues. None of these will endear him to any suiters so, as I said, I think we're stuck with him like it or not.
I agree, Siggy will be a target along with Shelvey and Ki but I feel, and I don't know why, that Siggy is the most likely to go in the summer.
Siggy won't be going anywhere - just arrived and although he made a huge impact early on (particularly linking with Dyer) for much of the season has been so-so. Shelvey is more likely to move IMO - he's seen as something special by some, a liability by others. Is his ability keeping him in the team or careful ego massaging based on there being no others in the squad to take over? (Purely speculation on my part.) Siggy, Ki & Shelvey staying or leaving may hinge on Michu - If he comes back (is welcomed back) and is firing on all cylinders, feeling fit and positive one of the three could leave for game time. So many ifs and buts - Michu of 2012 13 season could not be dropped: the Michu of much of 13 14 would be struggling for game time.
Since the O.P. doesn't only specify players' who may be "off in the summer",what about Monk? Won't he be head hunted?
Possible but highly unlikely imo, though I realise that comment is tongue in cheek naughty boy. The Club took a big gamble by taking him on and although he's repaid that faith imo, he's seen (like it or not) as 'Mr Swansea' and I can't see anyone prising him away. Bad news for some I think.
Hopefully not. Is there any possibility that you yourself could be "off in the summer" - maybe permanently back to The Dark Continent - to a part where there is no internet would be ideal. (Laugh added to show you I don't really mean it. But on second thoughts...)
I've heard that they do actually have internet in Cardiff. I was thinking more of northern Chad or Burkina Faso...
Not really "tongue in cheek",but I can see why you and others would think so,especially the others. His fan club have been extolling his many virtues all season, although I'm still looking for them. Talk early doors,i.e., after the third game of the season, was that he was definitely the hottest thing in football management, and would be off at the end of the season. Actual destinations were stated quite categorically as being either Barcelona or Real Madrid. That info was provided by someone who always claims to know what's what at the Club,so who were we mere mortals to query it. Several Premier League Club's may well be looking for a new manager in the very near future,so if he's as good as his fan club believe, why shouldn't he "be off"? Why would he stay here, when he could go to,say,Man City,or even Liverpool? Personally speaking,I could care less where he goes, but come on,he's "a fantastic Manager",isn't he?
Now if I went off somewhere, who would be the target for all the toxic waste that erupts from these pages on a day to day basis? You and your ilk need me. I keep you honest,or at least I try to. But it's a ....... struggle.
I think Ki is the player most likely to be poached by another club. But hopefully we will keep everyone What do you think Lib? Can you name any of the Swansea players.
Strange question there aswan. Being tied at the hip to The Monkees has clearly taken it's toll on you?
