2016 Alexander Mitrovic Age: 21 Seasons in Premiership: 1 Appearances: 21 Goals: 4 1990 Alan Shearer Age: 20 Seasons in Premiership: 3 Appearances: 35 Goals: 5 Just saying . .
Three of those goals in the old First Division were at home to Arsenal on his full debut, so taking those out, he scored 2 in 34 appearances. People need to lay off Mitrovic. He's not a donkey. He's a talented young lad playing in a **** team, in a new league and living in a new country. He will come good next season. For now, he needs to be backed to the hilt. A certain Jon Dahl Tomasson was 21 when he joined us and scored something like 3 goals in 23 appearances, despite being a striker. He missed some sitters and people said he was crap. Proved them wrong though when he left didn't he?
I`m not writing him off, think he has done alright for a young lad coming into the Premiership from an easy league. He has improved a lot since his first few games. He doesnt play well every game, but then who does. It cant be easy playing up front for this team when we have played so shyte for most of the season so far, he has had little or no service for the majority of the games he has played. He just needs to speed up a bit and lose a bit of bulk. If he had cost 6-7million instead of 15 million then most would say he has been a decent buy. I think we overpaid for him, but that is the way the market is I guess.
Just needs time. Young strikers always need time unless they are of the Owen variety or Rooney i.e. peak at 17-21. Target men even more so. Its the same with all young players. Young centre backs and goalkeepers will drop really costly gaffs. You don't give up on them. You help them get better.
Young kids make mistakes. They need to do that to learn, develop and improve. Mitrovic will miss many more sitters before the end of the season. I would rather he did that now as a kid. He will come good next season and people will be raving about him. Most people in the game already do. It's the impatient fans that don't.
He was just a bad buy. What we needed at that time was guaranteed goals. If we were now sitting in mid table with a striker having bagged 10-12 goals, he'd have been the perfect January signing. They gambled massively and got it wrong. Doesn't make him a bad player.
I think he's decent and a good team player but at the time we needed guaranteed goals. What I do like is when interviewed he says it exactly straight. Admits it has been a massive step up and that he has to work hard to improve his game to start hitting the back of the net more regularly. Hoping with the new signings he might start getting a bit more service as I really want it to work out for him with us.
The guy seems to have a genuine affection for the club and bearing in mind the players that have turned us down, that puts him ahead of most for me. He will come good in my opinion, he has just been chucked in at the deep end when he should have been blooded into the team. Unfortunately for him, our team has been mostly ****e this term and he has suffered through that. Lets not scare this one away, lets give him a fair chance.
I'm defo not staying for the entirety of the 18 centuries the game will have to play on for if that's going to happen!
