with wayne rooney for now been banned for the first three games in the finals of the europeon championship do you think michael owen should be banging on sir alex fergusons door and asking for more regular games? there does seem a debate in the national press regarding who they should start with whist rooney sits out his ban.
i for one think michael owen still has alot to offer england in a major tournament and also if kept match fit should be played more often for you guys.

I very much doubt this would happen. I think the players who have a good chance of replacing Rooney are Welbeck, Defoe, Bent, Sturridge and Crouch but it depends on which type of system Capello will go for in the Euro's. If Owen is to have a chance of getting into contention then he must get game time at United but he is way down the pecking order so doubt this will happen unless in the cup games.

Not a chance. There are so many better players than Owen now - youngsters such as Sturridge and Welbeck deserve to be ahead of Owen. Then of course we have players like Bent, Carroll, Crouch, Defoe amongst others that would take my preference over Owen.

Owen may be banging on SAF's door asking for more games, but I doubt he'll get them with Welbeck in such good form and Hernandez scoring at a tidy rate. And Agbonlahor is another one who is likely to be ahead of Owen for England right now.

As good as he can put a goal away I think there are too many people playing more regular football for him to be considered. It is no fault of Owen's though, I still think if he played at a mid table club he would be in the England squad. Imagine him partnering Bent up front for Villa? They would get a hatful. There is no better player to have off your bench against Germany or Portugal in a quarter final of the Euros. Would much rather have Owen than Sturridge or Crouch coming off your bench.

thats my point, owen would be a great player to come on lets say for the last 30 minutes,he is a proven goal scorer and yes i would rather him than sturridge and crouch.wellbeck is a player for the future and a good player he is,but i do personally think cappello should take him.

But for all Owen's ability that he still has and has developed during his time at United, he doesn't offer anything else that other players don't. 6, 7 years ago, there wasn't another true goalscorer for England. After Shearer's retirement, who was there? I'm struggling here to think beyond Heskey and Vassell. But nowadays, all of our strikers can play on the last man and all of them can play down the channels and all of them can drop deep and play as an attacking midfielder.

I think Owen is still a good player but others offer what he does plus more.

Probably the most important thing Owen has compared to the likes of Sturridge, Welbeck, Crouch or Bent is experience. He has the know how of playing in big big games. Scoring against the best in major tournaments. That is vital when it comes down to it. Who would you prefer, Darren Bent, a man who scores 20+ goals a season for a mid table team or England's 4th (or whatever) highest goalscorer who has vast experience and has been there done it.

I know who I would rather.

For all the Welbeck and Aggy offerings, neither will make a big impact against top sides.

Owen has done, has years of experience. Englands hopes may well ride on clinical poaching in big games and Welbeck and the whore won't be offering that kind of contribution.

Engtland v Spain\Germany I'd rather Owen in there than Welbeck tbh, much better footballing brain. Welbeck's pace and aggys too won't help them against top sides in the WC so much as it does against poor sides in the prem.

Hernandez would be perfect, kinda like Owen as a young lad though not as good a finisher as Owen was.

I don't think the game works like that anymore. You need someone more than who is only there because he has the experience at finishing. Surely by taking 4 or 5 strikers you should be able to trust all of them to handle the pressure and take an opportunity like they are in training. You can argue that a young guy shouldn't/doesn't feel the pressure that an older player does which could be a good thing.

What message does that send out to someone like Bent who has consistantly scores loads of goals at exactly the same level that Rooney plays at for the most part, if someone who has hardly played at the same level gets the nod ahead of you? I think it's a good thing that Bent has scored lots of goals at a midtable club, it shows that one, he can handle the burden of being such a club's main man (not going to find at these clubs 3, 4 players that score 15 goals a season, more like one guy that scores 20+ and a few chip in here and there) and two, he can put away chances because generally such a club wouldn't create as many chances as a club at the top of the table.

    Nice joke.

Owen should be banging on Fergie's door for more games out of a desire for more games for United, for the sake of his career and pride, and nothing else.

Also, Fergie owes England **** all and so accomodating Owen to keep them happy will be a million miles from his thoughts. As it is a million miles from the thoughts of any United fan.

I will say that i really do rate Michael. If he played every game he would hit 8-13 goals easy. Will not happen though, because the ones ahead can get 20+. He is still better than most of the **** we call the National team.
