Maybe he should name himself as a sub with a view to coming on for the last 20? Maybe just use his experience directing things on the pitch from the middle, rather than shouting from the side of it ? Apart from McKenna who has been outstanding recently, maybe we lack a bit of a talker in the middle with the obvious tactical nous that Barmby has. Acknowledge that Koren also has the experience but doesn't seem to be the most vocal to me, that is needed to guide the young guns home.
I know what you mean, I remember Brian Horton coming on when he was player/coach, and he certanly organised things once he came on for the last 20 mins or so.
i can imagine it being difficult for player managers, if you where to give a bad pass away which led to a goal or something similar, i would imagine it would be hard to discipline or lecure others for mistakes
Unfortunately I can remember this scenario when Terry Neil came to Hull City from Arsenal. He was a respected player at Highbury, an Irish international, captain, all the credentials but not sure it was beneficial when he actually played for City. No doubting his credentials, but the fact that the boss was on the pitch didn't always work magic, and at times it caused some confusion. Maybe Barmby is of a different entirety, but I can't recall a player/manager actually doing any good, but I'm sure someone will put me right
