To a proffessional football player is it just a job. Do you think the likes of rooney etc would still love playing for his club if his wages were stopped. I very much doubt it. We need to stop expecting players to play for the love of the shirt etc because in the real world they don't give a poop about it, just there wages because its just a job to them! If you want to see full commitment and love of the club its maybe best to watch your local pub team, they won't be being paid so you know they love the club. All this talk of loving the shirt is fairy tales. In my opinion ofcourse.

Gus. I'm sure there are many pro footballers who have pride in their club (and therefore the shirt). Agreed there are far more that do it for the money but I wouldn't like to think that all of them did.

That's bollocks. Why should they have pride in our shirt? There is nothing to be proud about at the moment. Everyone in that squad will be wishing they were at another club at the moment and I don't blame them.

I suppose that is the downfall of buying premier division, I'm going to hate myself for saying this, But the budgie players have more passion in their little toe then what our lot show! They show they want to do it for the fans, They just don't talk the talk!

Just because they are currently successful does not mean that they are playing well because they love the club/shirt/fans. I think that most players are in it for, first the money then the personal glory very very few actually care which club they are at.

But there is a will to win, whatever the motivation. Whereas our lot play ****, come out with the same old bullshit about how they are going to put it right, pick up their wages, then play ****, bullshit, pick up their wages, play ****, bullshit, pick up their wages!

Its a never ending cycle, until they are made accountable for their performances.

Re-define their contracts to those of 'claim' lawyer's!

    No win, no fee!

That would sort the men out from the boys. <ok>

aaah CD, the old 'where there's blame there's a claim' principal. Kinada, we'd be rich by now and Leadtwat would be bankrupt.

Canary beat me to it...why don't we introduce "bankers bonus" to the club? You have a basic wage of, say, 100k a year (which is still a good wage) and then for every point the club gets, they get their bonus'. Then, at the end of the season, whoever is still there, share the prize fund. Lets see then how well these lads play, im sure you'd get a different set of results knowing that your wages are on the line.

I can see the general point of this argument although I don't think that players completely don't care about a club. I think that too often players get called money greedy etc when in any other job you generally go to the firm who would offer you the most money and the most financial stability. The players are looking after themselves and trying to get the best for their future and look after their family.

In terms of Ipswich atm. The problem is that we have had so many players in and out in the past few years I geuss there is no stabilty to the club and therefore noone really settles and forms a love of the club especially as we have not been doing very well either. To add to that we don't really have many players or as many staff, if any who are so called Ipswich through and through, as Keane seemed to out all of those trying to re image the club.

I think those who play for the home team love playing for the shirt, Carragher and Gerrard aren't just at liverpool for the money are they. Gerrard could've moved anyone he wanted and earnt more if he so desired. People like Dirk Kuyt grew up as liverpool fans and he also loves playing there. If we really want players with pride in pulling our shirt on then we need to bring through local lads who are prepared to run through brick walls for their team. If we could actually keep some players for more than a couple of years I'm sure some would grow attached to the club like you do when you have worked a long time in a place where you get treated well and have respect. I'm sure Jason De Vos had pride in the shirt, and Matty Holland etc. but it takes time and sometimes success for people to get attached to something that's nots 'theirs'.

Yes I do. i think Carra and Gerrard would stay even if they got relegated. Those two have really shown over the years that they will do anything for their club. Money isn't everything to everyone. Stevie didn't exactly jump ship when he couldn't play champions league anymore but I'm sure he could've found a team that wanted him if he looked and made himself available.

Even if a player doesnt love the club then they should have a personal pride and want to play at the highest level. There are numerous examples of players appearing for the biggest rivals of the club they supported as kids but it doesnt mean they dont try.
For an example if I was a professional and Norwich wanted me I would give 100%. If I was in their first team I would give 100% to try to keep in the team or earn myself a move away to a bigger club challenging for honours. If I was in their reserves I would try 100% to try to either force my way into the first team or put myself in the window for a transfer elsewhere.
