Cotterill said: "He's big, young, raw and hungry. I find that statement awful, here we are all waiting for a signing, a French youngster might sign for us and Cotts says," He's just a punt " ...... People might not agree with me but why bother signing him, what if he fails?
Todays interview that I had not read.. http://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/article/managers-west-brom-press-conference-2888538.aspx
Really?....End of the month?.......Too little too late if thats the case. Our season is slowly but surely fading away without so much as a whimper.
"We'll be top of the order at the end of thr month" Translation: the ****ter players who noone wants might come to us if noone else does
Spot on. We've cleared still not learned the lesson from last Summer that's put us in this position !! Enquiries/initial approaches to likely targets should have been made weeks and weeks ago ffs !
Hopefully the same as the £50k punt we took on Albert or the Bolasie punt that could make us more money in percentage fees to actual selling fees. Bizarre ain't it we take a punt then virtually give them away
Any signing has a risk of failure - for example, who would have though that Angel Di Maria would have been so underwhelming at Man Utd, so soon after being man of the match in the Champions League final and widely regarded as World Class. At the other end of the spectrum, Reading took a punt on Shane Long and Kevin Doyle from Cork City and they did pretty well for them. Chances are, this kid won't make it and if there are no other/not enough signings then it'll go down as another failed transfer window, but if he defies the odds and becomes the next Didier Drogba (at Ligue 2 Le Mans at that age) then it'd be hailed as bargain of the century.
If he (Garita) is big, strong, powerful and direct, then I would stick him in now. After all, what harm could it do, we need someone to shake up the opposition defences. As far as Di Maria is concerned, I used to watch a lot of his games in Portugal and frankly, his decision making was awful. Benfica must have been laughing all the way to the bank. There is no doubt that being around the Galatico's he improved at Real Madrid but in their company, he was made to look much better than he ever was and he was never worth anything like the money United or for that matter, PSG paid for him. That's I'm my opinion anyway and this kind of goes back to the thread about the value of our squad i.e. players are worth what people are prepared to pay...
Sounds like when we took a punt on a certain John Akinde, big and powerful. I remember his debut against Plymouth, he came on and scared the sh!te out of their defence and scored (maybe 2, my memory is not what it was), but was soon found out as not having the ability to trap a bag of cement..........
Agreed, but like this guy we bought him when we were a Championship club, and Akinde was never up to that standard
OOOPS PRESSED WRONG BUTTON On and off on here we have people say we haven't done anything, we ought to sign an oldie for expeirence to teach the youngsters, we ought to "take a chance a chance on players from a lower division" , give the academy lads a run out, etc etc Well, a young almost untried player for £50k who in the few ligue 2 / 3 games has shown touches lacking in some of our, City's, so called Championship players! is well worth a punt, Suddenly with the likes of Kodija showing some skills these divisions in France are showing a bit of talent, and a bit of interest, we lost 1 already to Derby £50k not the end of the world if he plays 4/5 games scores a couple of goals opposed to maybe getting in a loan player who may cost £50k+ in wages and be gone at the end of the season to somewhere like Blackburn etc. to me a good deal. BUT WE STILL NEED TO get in a good midfielder and maybe a forward and definetly a good defender 6 days down and already some of the better ones are finding nests.....
This was a case of right player very wrong time, he needed to have no pressures of relegation and a season of coaching, he came from non league up a very long way to the champs. We then developed a defensive attitude in as much as we would not chances with younger players, because we were upagainst it position wise fighting relegation for a couple of seasons OK he may have made an average centre forward scoring maybe 8- 10 goals a season but his height and build would have attracted a couple of defenders at a time in the box1
