We seem to be linked with a number of older keepers looking for one last payout. Could it be that Cotterill thinks we need a steady influence to Fielding, or someone that can handle the additional workload that this season will bring? I'm not sold on this move. He's not a bad keeper by any means, but it's an incredibly short-sighted move on our part for someone who will probably want decent wages.
Depends on what our ambitions look like for this coming term. If Cotts is going for the jugular then it would seem a useful deal. Its not a long-term project though is it. I doubt we are set up for a drive towards the Prem with our skeleton staff and lack of a marquee signing. However, I also don't think we will be fighting it out at the bottom
The addition of a quality experienced goalkeeper, especially considering our existing situation, could go a long way towards creating a squad that can compete in the Championship. Going in to the strongest second tier in the world requires a better goalkeeping tandem that we now have in place, because up here inexperience gets eaten for breakfast. We have to believe that SC knows what he is doing, and hopefully who he wants, and this guy is right in many ways as long as he isn't just looking for another pay packet like someone else we knew.
He's at the end of his career. He'd be a moron not to want a last pay packet. His best footballing years are long gone, and he won't come close to accomplishing his greatest football years with us. If we were to somehow, against all odds, land promotion this year, it probably won't be with him in goal anyway. One instance where this move would make perfect sense is if the player wants to stay in England, and wants to play a bit-part role in a side in order to get his coaching badges. This way, he can play cup games, help improve Fielding, and can look towards a coaching role with us or elsewhere.
Really good keeper in his hey day, but that was a lot of years ago. Do we really want/need another David James ?
Having David James kept Gerken out of the side and relegated Stephen Henderson to No 3. His face in the team photo said it all and was shortly off. Both keepers incidentally are regular choices in the championship. Personally, I think Fielding did very well last year, recovering his confidence and at the end was winning us points with vital saves. I think a decent back up keeper would suffice.
He must have quality with at least 5 clubs chasing him for his signature, he'll do for me for a number 2.. http://footballleagueworld.co.uk/qp...tball-league-clubs-eyeing-veteran-goalkeeper/ http://www.shoot.co.uk/category/news/clubs-queue-up-for-bolton-legend/
i agree it would send out a bad message to the squad to replace a player who did so much to land us the Div 1 last season
