Borussia Dortmund have called a news conference for 12:30 BST amid reports coach Jurgen Klopp has asked to leave the Bundesliga club.

Reuters news agency reports that the 47-year-old German has asked to be released from his contract, which is due to run until 2018.

German daily Bild said former Mainz 05 coach Thomas Tuchel is to replace him.

Klopp has coached Dortmund since 2008, taking them to two league titles and the Champions League final in 2012-13.

According to Bild, Klopp will take some time away from football before returning to management.

Surprised - as he seemed to be quite happy there, be a loss for Dortmund. And I suppose may enable us to get some of their players, like Reus and Bender. But I can't see Wenger suddenly leaving in 2 months so we can go for Klopp, and I wouldn't want him to tbh as I think the succession will take some careful planning, rather than a snap judgement

Well he's apparently taking a year out. I'd be happy to have him at Arsenal at the start of the 16/17 season. I feel Arsene has taken us as far as we can go if we are all going to be honest.

We need a succession plan and what better than Klopp. It's even better that he will take a year out so this will give Wenger a full year to see what he can do.

We would be foolish not to bring him in if we had the chance.

Must be frustrating for Klopp he's permanently in the situation Arsene was 3-4 years ago. (having to sell his best players year on year)

After Guardiola he would probably be my first choice to replace Arsene but I just can't see it happening this Summer.

Wenger seems to be getting somewhere with his new found budget. We will probably finish second this term and could well win the FA Cup again. He is showing improvement and the squad is not far away from where it needs to be in terms of quality.

Knowing that he's taking a year out changes things - kinda makes it perfect timing for us, we'll have a year for us and him to tie up loose ends and for him to slowly integrate himself into the club, identify targets and such. And for Wenger to prepare for whatever happens after the management job - be that taking a break for a bit ala Fergie, or going upstairs for a boardroom job...

For me it comes down to what Wenger does next season, will he be able to challenge with the players he has? We seem to be making good progress and the squad he has at his disposal is good enough to win the league. But it's one thing playing well when the heat is off, but when you are challenging it's another thing. For me this should be the deciding factor on Wenger. Can he still legitimately challenge for the title?

If Wenger does well next season then he continues, but if he flops, then every effort needs to be made to bring in Klopp.

Apparently Klopp doesn't want to take a year out, which kinda rules him out of taking over from Wenger unfortunately. Here's what's been put on BBC from his press conference.

More from Jurgen Klopp on his decision to step down as manager of Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.
"It's not that I am tired," Klopp said. "I haven't had any contact with another club but I don't plan to take a year off either.
"I really think the decision is the right one. This club deserves to be coached by the 100% right manager. I've always said that if I thought I was no longer the perfect coach for this extraordinary club, I would say so."

I agree that Wenger needs to challenge next year for the big prizes (league/CL) but both he and whoever takes over from him need to deal with the injury issue - it badly affected us for the 1st half of this year, a lot of last year and many of the most recent seasons. I think regardless of how good the manager is, and how much better than Wenger they are, they would struggle if their best players are out for a third/half a season...

I kind of agre with you but reluctantly accept that Wenger will be going sooner rather than later. Intergrating Klopp over the next year may be a good idea if it can be made to happen early. Having said that, I suspect Wenger has his succession plan in mind-who knows if Klopp is part of that...?

Think he'd be ideal for you but timing probably doesn't work. Wenger has bought himself more time with a decent end of season finish which perhaps papers over the cracks of performing well when the pressure is off.

I fancy Klopp for City or Real (if Real win nothing and sack Carlo).

Those are two clubs I really don't want him to go to. He comes across as a good guy and needs a club to stand by him. Ours would be an ideal match up but as you've mentioned, the timing is pants.

I think he may head to City as one poster said, he's the only top class manager available for them to get, so it just all makes sense. Plus he'd have a better budget, wouldnt have to constantly sell his best, so he'd be attracted by that prospect.

If he is taking a year off this could be perfect for us.

Wenger has put together a good squad and we are not far off the title. He has another opportunity to strengthen that this Summer.

If we can't win the EPL or Champions League next term.. I would say it's about time to get in someone new.

Oh, he's not taking a break then? That definitely rules him out now. Oh well.

He's looked miserable this season. Nothing was working. Fair play to him for sticking it out, keeping them safe and walking away. Not just abandoning them when **** got real.

For all Arsene's critics and Klopp's fans I don't recall us having a slump like Dortmund have had this season whilst under Wenger. Consistency is underrated.

Consistently mediocre if we are to be honest. 2 league titles, domestic cup and a CL final in 5 years is better than 1 fa cup in ten years.

I would see how Arsene gets on next season. He's shown a different side to him this season in big games. We'll see with the healthier finances, the new medical approach. Let's see if Wenger is on to something. If the "progress" this season was all a fluke due to injuries forcing the purchase of Welbeck and recall of our Coq, we'll find out.

You could also do a five year period for Wenger where he won :-
    2 league titles
    3 domestic cups
His team also appeared in CL final in that 5 year period and also went a season unbeaten in their domestic league
