Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Julio Cesar, who moved to the West London club in the summer from Inter Milan, has admitted that he wasn’t just focusing on the football when he signed his four-year deal.

The Brazilian, who now has 64 caps for his country, suggested that the chance to move to the English capital was one of the main factors.

“I wanted to live in London,” he says of his decision to join a club that has yet to win a game in the Premier League this season.

“I have an amazing way of life here and I'm giving my family a great opportunity to grow up culturally.”

That said, the chance to make an impression on a club for which Premier League security is their primary challenge was also appealing.

“I talked with Arsenal in the last transfer window… but at the last minute I moved to QPR. [The club] has a project, and I dream about that project coming true.

But I came here because I was thinking about my future once I quit football, that's true."

He was signed with significant fanfare in August, and was soon displacing England international Rob Green, who’d also signed in the summer from West Ham.

Described as “a significant coup” by QPR chairman Tony Fernandes, his capture was meant to underline the club’s ambition.

Just now, it is perhaps underlining the inherent risks of high-profile acquisitions.
