Julian Bennett in on loan, 27 years old LB. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Bennett_(footballer) http://www.shrewsburytown.com/news/article/2nov12-defender-comes-in-on-loan-462374.aspx Looks likely that at that age we might look at signing him come january if he performs well. Puts pressure on our weakest spot too.
Without exception the Wednesday fans say he was hopeless in League One last season but previously had a good reputation at Forest.
http://www.shropshirestar.com/sport...e-julian-bennett-wants-to-stay-at-shrewsbury/ I know this is about him being here on loan after recovery from injury, but do you think GT wants him to sign in january for us? What are people's views on him from what they have seen?
GT mucked up there by the looks of things. Released Collins and then finds out that Bennett had a bad back.
And there goes another one, or two in this case. Wouldn't you think it prudent to keep Collins around until Bennett's diagnosis was known? Why not just extend his loan anyway if we didn't know, it's only another month? This looks shambolic. The Oldham defeat was the lowest point so far for me and I thought we'd at least have a couple of quiet weeks before there was a danger of things getting any worse. I was wrong.
Shrewdchemic....read your own post on "when you are down.....", then read my reply, then read your post above. You are contradicting your own argument and agreeing with those you diss!......but you are so right about this....unless there is something we aren't being told???????
Collins wasn't being played and wasn't on the bench for the last two games. I cannot remember if he was injured but if he wasn't it looked like he was being sent back as a decision had been made on him. Yet it was foolish to have done so if Bennet had been injured, I was sure that he was going to be a signing come January too!!
He seemed to be way down the pecking order though, Grandison ahead of him in Turner's eyes. I guess he'd rather have Goldson as back-up, possibly to save a bit of money?
I do not think either player is a great loss as neither looked good enough for League 1. I would rather see Goldson having a run - at least he is one of our own players and could improve if some faith was shown in him. The alternative is to keep Gayle at right back and play Grandison in the middle - at least his height should make our defence stronger in the air.
Whatever Turner goes for, I hope he sticks with it. Collins is a strange one. I only saw him play a few times and was very impressed with him; he kept Matt Ritchie completely out of the game and played very well against Doncaster, before having a bit of a shaky game against Yeovil, although he was nowhere near our worst defender with Jacobson and Jones both having far worse nights than him. I didn't see him after that, but from reports it seems he went badly downhill, which is a shame.
I don't know what was wrong with Jacobson for a while but he seems to be getting back his old self. He also made skys team of league one the other week.
Apparently he was dire against Oldham, which is a shame. MKD and Crewe he both played well in, so he deserves to keep his place for the next game for me.
so of turners loanees, only rodgers and gayle left. out of the door-bennett, collins, hector, winnall, proctor, helan. loan window now closed, so town are going to have to watch carefully injuries and indicipline. just how many extra players will be needed in january? it appears gt's loanees have not been a great success and we must hope he will be more successful with roland's wallet. er floreat salopia!
