Now just over a week away, BARNEY ROY seems an absolute gift here at 100/30.

Even if Ulysses runs (I don't think he will) I'd back a rested Barney Roy to come out on top this time in that battle.

Looks like Churchill will be O'Briens main representative so it's surely a match bet between him and Barney Roy. You'd say Churchill would have to actually improve for the step up in trip to beat Barney Roy and just can't see it happening. I assume the weather is the only thing holding the price up but good ground looks likely from what I can see. If you need any more positives then Barney Roy also a strong trends pick and godolphin have a great record in the race.
 
Looking at what is likely to run, you'd have to say Barney Roy is the one to beat. I don't think you could back Churchill off the back of that last run at the same price as Barney Roy. It makes no sense to me to see them both the same price.

However I'm still not convinced the Eclipse is a reliable form guide. It was off a very slow pace, and there was an incident with Decorated a knight and Cliffs of Moher.

So I'd probably be tempted to give Decorated Knight another chance at 16/1. As I don't believe there is much between him and Barney Roy on their best form.

In all honesty though it's looking like a very poor renewal of this race. I don't think any of them are high class.
 
I agree no world beaters and I agree something might be worth a look at an each way price also. I don't think Ulysses or Highland Reel will run, Decorated Knight will run his race but don't think he has a chance for win purposes. Cliffs Of Moher would be the interesting one for me each way. Quotes from O'Brien suggest he might let him take his chance alongside Churchill. 4 lengths behind Barney Roy last time not a bad effort at all and who knows how much closer he'll get with a clear run
 
Looks like Ulysses is going to run. I would have kept him fresh for the Breeders Cup, think he'll likely get run off his feet in this
 
With the going still an unknown for next Wednesday at York, it is very easy to find reasons not to back most of the possibles in the Juddmonte International.

I cannot think of any reason why the extra two furlongs is going to help Churchill reverse Ascot running with Barney Roy. Given that Ballydoyle have no stand out candidate this year, I can see them having two or three runners as well as possibly a pacemaker. I cannot see Winter being one of them despite her short odds.

With the obvious ground requirement for Highland Reel, I would not consider him until the day of the race when the going is known because I would not be surprised if they have got the taps on at York trying to manufacture “good” ground that frequently gets ruined by Yorkshire rain. You would think that they would have learnt their lesson in recent years.

There is a good chance that Cliffs Of Moher may run after he and Decorated Knight were completely luckless at Sandown. The winner that day, Ulysses, may not find it as easy on this flat track as the others will know that he is going to be produced late and can either go for home earlier or play late themselves.

Shutter Speed is owned by the sponsor and she looks a generous price at the moment to try and repair some of her tarnished reputation; and whilst Nezwaah is clearly on an upward curve the Pretty Polly runner-up did nothing for the form at the weekend.

Two or three of the others would have big question marks against them, especially Jack Hobbs, Hawkbill and So Mi Dar, although granted the latter was making her seasonal bow on heavy ground at Goodwood.

7 declared for the Juddmonte including Barney Roy, Churchill and Ulysses. This is one of the more difficult races of the week now I think as you could make a case for any of the three. Am on Barney Roy at 100/30 and will leave it at that, wouldn't begrudge Ulysses winning though.

I think Cracksman will have too much in the Great Voltigeur and got on this morning at 11/8 (now evens with Capri's withdrawal). I can see the arguments for Mirage Dancer in this race, but just feel that Cracksman is a bit further along at this stage and should take this. Mirage Dancer will be winning plenty next year though.

The stand out bet of the week for me is Mori in the Galtres on Thursday. Not priced up yet but definite wheelbarrow material.
 
What an absolute minefield this race is! Should have saved my pennies for Mori on Thursday. Really hard to assess how it's going to be run, there seems to be no pace and the decision by Godolphin not to put a pacemaker in there for Barney Roy I just don't understand. He's often keen and you wouldn't fancy his chances of staying on up the long straight at full speed if he's been pulling hard for the first half of the race. They talk about him as if he's their premier racehorse, so why not afford him the luxury of a pacemaker to ensure the race is run to suit?

Cliffs Of Moher might be sent to the front but he won't be going at much of a pace if so, they're not going to try and run the finish out of Churchill and won't want Barney Roy to settle. Maybe the tactics of Goldolphin will be to make all with Barney Roy, would certainly catch ballydoyle on the hop.

I've talked myself into and out of backing all of the rest of the field as a cover bet. Ulysses will be cantering all over them i'm sure a couple out but you would expect one of the youngsters to outpace him off the bridle this time. Cliffs Of Moher should be closer to Barney and Ulysses with a clear run and only has four lengths to find. Shutter Speed is interesting given her defeat of Enable. Rain around tomorrow morning as well which complicates things further, not sure who will appreciate that the most. I would have thought O'Brien's pair but he's adamant he wants no rain. If you can find any confident selection taking into account all of the above then you're a better man than me. Should be a cracking race though.
 
Getting some good races this year with horses not being wrapped up and kept away from each other which sometimes happens nowadays. Ulysses will be bang there again im sure but the flat track should suit Barney Roy and this will probably be his day.

I love Mirage Dancer, he was my first pick in the draft this season, needs to start delivering now with a couple of high level experiences under his belt this season and the step up to 1m4 should help him. I dont think Cracksman is progressing much but sets a high standard in the context of the division and you could argue that he deserves to win this. Easy decision for me at the prices and I need to stick with The Dancer anyway.
 
Think both Cracksman and Mirage Dancer will be serious horses operating at the top level next year. Despite Stoute's magic hands and skill at improving one at that age run to run, I actually fancy that Cracksman might have more improvement in him, certainly for next year. He's got a fair old frame to fill out and think he'll be winning plenty of top races at 10/12f in future. Happy with the 11/8 for tomorrow
 
Hmm, colour bloody awful, presentation video music a complete horror, so, don't think I'll buy it! Let me know what you think of it, Cyc, after you test-run it off Queensland. <laugh>

That's why I bought this old Dhow years ago. A man's boat because you could never be sure if you would make it back to Dubai safe and sound. <whistle> <laugh>
