Just heard now that his release clause of £20m odd expired and he has now got a £60m release clause as of today. So looks like he will be going nowhere this summer.
In that case, let's make sure he gets a rousing reception in the Valencia. That way, he'll never want to go anywhere else!
Dissapointing if true. Although there should be a valid reason why Arsenal, Tottenham and us aswell as the other clubs with interest in him didn't make an offer. Something must be wrong.
It is disappointing that we didn't pursue him more, but there must have been a reason for this. But it was looking likely that he may have gone to Arsenal so for that reason I am relieved.
Firstly its €60 million and not £60 million. And it has been reported that Valencia may be willing to accept £27 million or €30 million.
Didn't we only spend £18 million on Downing. The figure put on Henderson is also wrong,Damien Comolli said it is nowhere near the media quoted price.
Actually, the opposite is true. Downing and Mata were our left wing targets, so now we have the former, we definitely won't be bidding for the latter. Many journos (including Guilleme Ballague) have pointed out that our interest in Mata ended once we'd signed Downing. And this, of course, is the reason we didn't pursue him more.
Do release clauses mean that much anyway? Valencia are still in serious financial difficulties and I would suspect that if an offer of £25M came in for him, Valencia would probably have to seriously consider it.
It'd be pretty funny if he ended up at Spuds or Arsenal after tons of Liverpool fans putting him at number one on their shopping list. Really surprised you didn't try and get him instead of Downing...
Reports have now claimed that a bid from Arsenal have been rejected for Mata. I reckon they'll sign him unless we step in. Might be allowed to leave for around £18million, £5million cheaper than previously thought. Maybe the lack of solid interest has caused a drop in price? But to be honest I can't see him not leaving Valencia now. They are in financial difficulties which have seen them sell Villa and Silva over the past two years and now Mata is in the last year of his contract and a team are offering £18million for him, I think they'll be pressured into it.
valencia were in financial difficulties 2 seasons before they agreed to sell Villa and Silva. If they really want to retain Mata you can be sure that they will take a lot of pressurising
