I know JT has been getting progressively slower at the back in recent seasons, but as his old buddy Jose is back in charge, I thought these shortcomings would be overlooked in favour of his leadership qualities!
Now the Special One has made it known he will not be an automatic choice I'm curious to know how he will organise his back four ,and more importantly --who will be the new captain?

Got to be Ivan or Lamps if JT isnt playing.
I am a little concerned about our defence to be honest.
For all the stick our forwards get, we were the second highest scorers behind Utd. And Schurrle and Lukaku have been added to that now aswell.
Would like Rooney, but I think we need to look at CB.

Good, no one should ever be guaranteed a place even JT.
I like that at the moment our squad looks like if a player isn't performing there is always someone waiting in the wings, chomping at the bit for their opportunity.
Thats not to say we don't need strengthen up in certain areas though.

I reckon we'll be seeing something like this:

    Ivanovic (C) - Kalas - Luiz - Cole

I'd like to say, I don't think people realise just how highly Kalas is rated by the club. It seems like he wants Kalas to be a Varane-esq player in our team.

I would think Cech would be Capt. He is already after JT and Lamps and I'd expect that to continue.

I really have a huge thing against keeper captains. Too isolated.

As much as I admire Cech, I also agree that keepers should not be captains! As far as the back 4 are concerned isnt Azpil a regular possibility at RB?

But is better at RB; I think we can all see that.

Hardly. A lack of pace has been the downfall, but our side with him in has been very solid at the back and well organised. He's made up for a lack of pace with world class positioning.

He's got a ton of experience and nobody can deny that he's been a top quality CB. But are you sure about that 'hardly' comment ? Some of JT's Bambi legged moments have been pretty catastrophic to be fair.

No more so than our other defenders. I don't think he's a first choice but you were just a tad harsh on JT thre.

Just commenting on what I've seen. I'm not sure other chelsea fans would be so sympathetic to him. Personally I think he makes a fairly big mistake each game nowdays

Ivan is our best right back, Azpi will be next season. JT is rock steady, and can be excellent, but NOT against quick forwards. He should play against select opposition. We have enough cover to choose our teams depending on opposition. Cahill is our biggest worry, he was hopeless last season and really needs to step up. Think he can do it with encouragement, not by bollocking. Jose will get it right, and get the Subs right, and on at the right time, not with 3 mins to go like the FSW.

Perhaps. Like I said he's not first choice but still has a part to play.

On the back of two pre season games thus far I would say its looking like JT and Luiz at CB. Wouldn't let panicky Cahill anywhere near our defence and the others, Chalobah and Kalas, are still too inexperienced.
