I dont understand why everyone (in newspapers) are talking about Jovetic. He is seen as a number 10 guys - so who would he replace? or would we reshape our team? For Attacking Midfield we have Carzola, Wilshere and Rosicky so surely we dont need one more? Playing him as a CF wouldnt really work either I think (but i haven't seen much of Jovetic)? Then I rather spend 25million in a true finished like Benzema, Higauin, Lewandowski. So why would we want this guy?
Can play all along the top 4 so RWF/CF/LWF/SS/AM plus he is 23/24 and has the potential to become a great player so there are a lot of reasons to purchase him. But I am with you if I had to choose I would much rather have an outright CF such as the ones you mentioned. That being said wouldn't complain if we got him.
Here's what I think... When you look at just about all of the strikers who have really flourished under Wenger NONE of them were out and out centreforwards: Henry and Anelka were both wingers in their youth and Wenger converted them to a central role. RVP played as a SS and on the wing. (Berkamp was also more of a AM/SS) I think he does this because he believes his formations should be fluid and a good player should be able to adjust to any role. Also if your forwards are more educated in other positions they are likley to be better when linking with those around them. If Wenger is after Jovetic I would not be suprised if he intends to play him not as a SS but as an out and out CF. I do think that the asking price of £25.6 (30 Million Euros) is more than he is willing to play for a talented but inconsistant 23 years old. Jovetic will only come to Arsenal if Fiorentina lower their asking fee.
I am a massive fan of Jovetic and even I have do not think it's wise for us to spend the reported £20 Million plus on him, because unlike City or Chelsea, we can't afford to throw that amount of money. His injury record is also a bit of a worry.
