Saturday night. Anyone watching this? I heard Josh is 6-1 on so I may abstain from having a flutter. Ring entrances expected at 10:30pm. Hopefully will be home by then.
I’m watching. Fantastic talent on the undercard. I don’t know what to expect with Parker despite having seen plenty of him. Different level under much greater spotlight. I think Joshua in 6 or 7. Really pleased Joshua has got his weight back down. Speed is his real power.
Blockhead should win but I expect Parker to be hard as nails. Price on the undercard will lose but I'd love to see him KO that Russian drug cheat. Burnett and Kelly are 2 good prospects also
Defo looking forward to this after the cricket, we need a whitewash tonight I reckon Joshua to win in 6 as well, but a lot of my mates have Parker down to take him late, and if that happens, he'll have a great chance. Glad Joshua has lost some muscle, much needed. He won't have lost power, because he had to exert more power throwing punches than Takam actually felt when it landed. I just can't get excited about a Kiwi boxer. They usually come through with these unbeaten records, fighting sheep in New Zealand or sacks of drunken cement in Oz, then get obliterated... I mean, Sonny Bill was a champion FFS . Parker looked **** against Hughie as well. Although, that Australian lad Jeff Horn beat Manny, so maybe the standard of boxing in that part of the world is getting better.
I'm confident AJ will win but the last fight against Takam was a bit of a let down. I don't suppose having his nose broken in the 2nd round helped AJ's cause much though. Parker is tough, there's no doubt about that, but I think once Joshua connects cleanly, then Parker will beat a hasty retreat. Whatever happens, it's going to be a good fight
If the bookies have it that wide then it's got to be worth having a flutter on Parker? I honestly think that AJ will have a really tough night.
Massively disappointing. Ref was ****. You have to let them fight inside. Particularly when they are struggling to gel.
Ref was utter rubbish, Joshua much the aggressor, Parker durable but on back foot a lot. Easy enough win for Joshua.
It was okay, but never really got going. I don't think Joshua wanted to take the risk of going for a knockout. Just boxed his way through the fight. He has another gear or two over what he showed tonight. Not sure Wilder will do the fight so not sure who's next for AJ. Roll Fury out for a money maker later in the year most likely.
What was interesting there must have been respect for Parker. He went out with that plan listening to the interviews. I thought it must have been cause he got tagged but it wasn’t.
I had Parker 115 113. Even if Joshua won he didn't win 10 or 11 rounds. Judges here are worse than Germany
Nah, Parker was busier, but was not landing much. Joshua controlled it brilliantly at range, in what is comfortably the best boxing performance to date, if boring to watch. The ref was utterly ridiculous, but I suspect hired for that very reason. If you can't box inside, how can the shorter guy possibly win? Parker was fantastic in defeat, and has proven himself very durable, but ultimately gave Joshua very few problems. Wilder can **** off calling anyone for ducking, because he's ducked every chance to fight for another belt before AJ, and every decent fighter in between. Whyte deserves a shot, Povetkin should probably fight Joshua, and leave the unification for next year.
I agree I couldn't even get Parker close to be honest. I had him 4 rounds down but it could easily have been more. https://www.boxingscene.com/anthony-joshua-vs-joseph-parker-compubox-punch-stats--126756 Compubox suggests Parker threw enough punches but couldn't land a glove which is how I saw it. My sympathy for him lies in the referee. He needed to be inside to land and was not allowed that luxury. Smelt badly of Hearns protecting his money. Having said that the Parker team had full involvement with the selection of the ref and all judges. They were very insistent on it and declared themselves happy. Its difficult to moan afterwards. Supposedly this ref does always split them up and has done it before. They say he previously got criticised for calling breaks but not actually getting in between them, a fight between Povetkin vs Boswell does back this up. Perhaps he has gone the other way in an attempt to get bigger jobs? Or perhaps he is just a bent italian ref who Eddie has paid off? You have to remember it was not only Parker who suffered. Joshua landed a massive uppercut on Parker only for the ref to step in. If those types of punches are followed up quickly you can end up seriously buzzed. All in all a good nights work from Joshua, if a little boring, and a slight tinge of someone playing a part they shouldn't have.
