Academy youngster Josh Tymon has received his first international call-up after being named in the England Under-17 squad for the upcoming Algarve Tournament next month. The Young Lions head to Portugal in February to take on the hosts, Germany and Holland in the annual friendly tournament. England will play the home nation at the Municipal Stadium Bela Vista in Parchal on Friday 5th February, followed by Germany on Sunday 7th February at the Municipal Stadium in Lagos before they return to Parchal for their final match against Holland on Tuesday 9th February. Left-back Tymon, who first joined the Club’s Academy set-up at the age of 12, has impressed for the Tigers’ Under-18 and Under-21 sides in the past 18 months, and has also trained with Steve Bruce’s first-team squad in the current campaign. The 16-year-old has featured heavily in Tony Pennock’s Development Squad in their first U21 Professional Development League 2 campaign this season, having started in each of their last 11 games in all competitions. Reflecting on Tymon’s England Under-17s call-up, Academy Manager Tony Pennock said: “First and foremost, on behalf of every one at the Academy, I would like to congratulate Josh on being called up to represent his country. It’s a great reward for all of his hard work and commitment. “It’s a fantastic honour for the lad, and one that he should be very proud of, as should everyone at the Academy that has worked with him during his time in our youth set-up. “It’s further recognition of the work being done in the Academy and great news for all the staff and the Club in general. “When a player gets a call-up like this it’s a real boost for him and for everyone around him. Playing international football at any level is a great challenge and an opportunity for players to learn. “I’m sure Josh will join up with his international team-mates and represent the Club in the best way possible.”
Well done to young Tymon. First step on the road to the first team hopefully. Someone on here did pick him out awhile ago, can't remember who Let's hope there is a production line coming along
There are at least 3 strikers, 6 midfielders, 2 goalkeepers and the physio team Bruce will choose ahead of him.
Seems a bit unfair that a lad that played in the Conference, League 2, League 1 and the Spl was let go on a free but there's a good chance some kid might get through having never kicked a competitive football. Weird.
He'll have to get injured quickly then, now he's on the premier league clubs radar, one of them will take him off our hands for about 20p under the EPPP. This is awful news.
His dream/ambition is to make his first team debut at a younger age than Rooney, he sounded like a decent lad and it's great having a local lad so highly rated. I thought Pennock made it sound like we got a fee for Townsend, he said something about us 'getting an offer the club found acceptable'?
That's ridiculous. He'll draw ball 8, which is Jakupovic. He'll play outfield on the left if Robertson is injured.
Tymon our back up to Robertson. Maloney, Odubajo, Clucas, Taylor and probably Huddlestone are all higher on the priority chain.
Bruce has just confirmed that as of the start of this week, Josh Tymon in now training with the first team.
We've had a few training with the first team over the season, with Dixon and Luer making a first team appearance. Don't know anything about Tymon but genuinely delighted we have some good young guns coming through at last
Are they coming through? So far all that's happened is the usual process of giving them a very limited chance then shipping them out. If they ever actually make it into the first team for any length of time then great, but as it is we're as bad as ever at bringing through young players.
Until Pennock arrived the gulf between what was the 'centre of excellence' (term used loosely), and the first team was almost as big as the Grand Canyon, now its a smaller gap with the current academy. So we are getting there (or appear to be), I am hopeful someone will break through and establish themselves; has anybody done that yet, then clearly no.
Matty Dixon is no longer with the club. It's been announced that he has signed for York City. Also Will Aimson has signed for Blackpool for "an undisclosed fee".
