Just for fun.... Episode 12 - The Work of a Genius Jose Mourinho knows that Manchester United will never be a true threat to him with David Moyes in charge; but recognises that if Moyes fails to placate the fans with at least one marque signing, his credibility will be eroded. He identifies that it's better for Chelsea in the long term for David Moyes to be in his role, albeit unsuccessful, than to make a change and for Manchester United to bring in a manager of real pedigree and greater threat. (Better the red devil you know!) Conveniently Mourinho has a surplus for the number 10 position, and a disgruntled player with which to set the honey trap. He starts by announcing that Juan Mata is not for sale and this forces the price up. What David Moyes really needs is a box-to-box midfielder with pedigree and influence, and whilst Juan Mata can provide some of this, Jose Mourinho knows that the player alone will not bolster Manchester United sufficiently for them to threaten Chelsea, but enough to ask questions of the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham. All of which have to play them again this season. So just as in Homeland series 3 episode 12 where Saul Berenson (Jose Mourinho) shops Nicholas Brody (Juan Mata) to the Iranian security forces (MUFC) via the Kurdish Police (agents). Berenson (Mourinho) recognises the collateral value of his double agent (Mata) but sacrifices him for the long term gain. Identifying that Iran (Old Trafford) is in a state of shock and unrest after the death of General Daniel Akbari (retirement of Ferguson); he opts to support Majid Javadi (David Moyes) and send Brody (Mata) to the gallows rather than expose Javadi (Moyes) as a weak leader! Perfect symmetry!
That's a well thought out and clever analogy Sku. I like it. It's a shame you couldn't find a character for 'Whinging Wenger' who believes that every one benefits from the deal except him.
The only real whinger in Homeland was Dana Brody; but it's a bit harsh and obscure to assimilate her character with the Arsenal gaffer.
I was thinking much the same thing. I'm guessing he could give a rousing Churchillian half time team talk to augment the fine work that David Moyes and his team are doing. please log in to view this image
