I wonder what the Manchester United owners and board of directors would have said if Messrs Beckham,Scholes and Rooney had gone to them complaining about their treatment under Ferguson.Does anyone believe for one minute that they would have been listened to ? They would have been told "if you aren`t happy, then leave" and life would have been made difficult for them. Why then has the Sunderland owner and Board listened to the bleating and mutiny from a bunch of overpaid underperformers who had stopped giving their best for the club because they thought that the manager`s regime was too strict and interfered with their comfort zone.To hear O`Shea and Colback telling the footballing world that KB has had a great influence since he became caretaker,he is a good man and they would be happy if he got the job permanently is an insult to the intelligence of all Sunderland fans. They say that they would run through a brick wall for KB which is exactly what they said about MON.Having watched Messrs O`Shea & Co during the latter stages of MON`s time at SOL,I can`t remember seeing anyone running through brick walls. In fact I seem to recall saying that some of the crew wern`t giving their best. Can I advise ES to put a gag on all Sunderland players while he searches for a new manager and God help us if that man is KB.

Sad, very sad and appalled at the board for allowing it to happen under such circumstances.

The only reason they would run through a brick wall is they have not got the sense to go around it

O'Shea has just effectively ended Ball's hopes of being appointed full time manager.

It's ironic that people called Di Canio a madman when we now have the lunatics running the asylum.

I've never had such little interest in our players.

I'm kind of coming round to thinking the same Smug.
It looks like they have far too much say.
I fear for whoever comes in because if they don't like his methods they may hound him out again.

I can't believe the club sanctioned O'Shea to go off to the press after the things he's said about Di Canio.

What credible manager will come to a club where the players think they're running the club?

Short needs to reign things in quickly because this is out of control.

Ball is also proving that he's incapable of the job I'm afraid and could work himself out of a job.
If he's not careful he'll be the first one to be sacked if a strong new manager like Jol comes in and wants the club sorted out from top to bottom.
Saying he wants to be manager, in public, will be seen as a veiled threat by the new man who'll know Ball will be sulking.

I hate to say it but Ball isn't coming across as too intelligent at the moment.

So who exactly is in charge of the players now?

What's Maggie Byrnes role in all of this?

Theoretically it's Kevin Ball but he's doing himself no favours whatsoever.

Allowing O'Shea to go off to the media, like a club representative, calling him Bally and having pops at Di Canio.
This isn't how my club should be behaving.

JACK COLBACK insists his former academy coach Kevin Ball has the qualities needed to be a Premier League manager.

Sunderland have confirmed that caretaker boss Ball will remain in charge for Saturday’s visit of Manchester United, while the Black Cats hierarchy consider their options over a successor to the sacked Paolo Di Canio.

Gus Poyet is still the firm front-runner to succeed Di Canio, while ex-Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen is also in contention, but Ball will have another opportunity to stake his claim against the reigning Premier League champions.

Former Sunderland skipper Ball is eager to be appointed on a permanent basis, despite his experience of front-line management being limited to two temporary stints in charge of the club he has served for two decades.

And Colback, who played under Ball at Under-18 level, says the 48-year-old would gain the support of the Sunderland dressing room, if owner Ellis Short opts to appoint from within.

Colback told the Echo: “I’ve worked with Bally a lot and he’d certainly be the one person who would love the job more than anyone.

    “The fans love him too.

“The decision is obviously nothing to do with me, but while he’s here, he’ll get everyone’s support and commitment.

“I think it’s obvious to see he’s got the attributes of a manager.

“As a player, he showed why he was captain of teams. He’s that sort of guy.

“He’s a leader and everyone gets fired up.

“Everyone respects him and I think that’s the most important thing. We have respect for him and he has respect for us.

“It’s made a big difference since he’s come in and the players really want to do well for him, the fans and the club.”

Colback is the second member of the Sunderland squad to back Ball’s claims after skipper John O’Shea expressed similar sentiments.

The left-back has been impressed by Ball’s impact on performances after inheriting a side languishing at the foot of the Premier League table.

And although Sunderland were unable to alter that perilous situation in Sunday’s defeat to Liverpool, Colback believes there were signs of progress.

“Obviously it didn’t work out (under Di Canio)” added the 23-year-old.

“Bally is in now and it’s been good since he took over.

“He got a good result in the cup and we went into the Liverpool game with confidence.

“We were hoping to get some points, but it didn’t happen and everyone just needs to stay positive, the fans as well.

“I know it’s difficult for them when the team is losing, but if they stick with us, we’ll certainly give 100 per cent every game.

“And I think if we played like we did in the second half for periods, then we’ll be fine.”

When players start calling for a stand in manager to made permanent the board should make sure they DONT go along with this chain of thought.

The same thing happened with Sbragia - we were extremely lucky to survive that season.

The comments above about not having interest in our players is absolutely spot on. I have never felt less than I do now for the current group.

Spot on fella. I'm glad now the Paolo fallout has cleared a bit people are seeing that the problem with our club is the long serving players. 3 managers they've ****ed over, it's a disgrace.
