Injured last night and will miss the rest of the season and possibly the Euros, shame for the lad if he misses out on France.
Pleased to see the lad doing well as one of our own. Shame about the injury but don't think he'll be a huge miss at the Euros.
Don't wish injury on (m)any players but I'll be relieved to see him miss the Euros if that's the case, Delph will probably replace him, or Carrick, both far better.
I thought he was class against Germany and a contender for man of the match..I really feel for the lad..
Had him down as one of the leading players, as he, Dier and Lallana combined beautifully in midfield against Germany.
Don't know about that like. They might have the edge in some areas but definitely not far better in my opinion.
Harsh that like mate, do you honestly think Delph and Carrick can do any better?? Carrick is the wrong side of 32, and has had many a chance to show what he can do for England, and to be fair hes failed! And as for Delph, yes id have him in the squad, but not over Henderson!
Think Delph is massively overrated. Just a rich mans Cattermole IMO. Carsick is a better footballer than either but Henderson has more energy and covers more of the pitch
Carrick's 34 and is literally getting slower by the second. He's a good passer (so is Henderson) and has good positional sense but there's not much else to his game. He offers none of the physicality that Henderson brings and is borderline essential in the modern game.
Henderson was built like a Jockeys whip here but hes now a big strong box to box central midfielder completly different and a much bigger asset to England than Carrick. He'll be a big loss for us!
I'm not replying to everyone, there just seems to be a huge clash of opinions here. I believe Carrick is and has been the most under rated midfielder in this league for years. What he does is simple, but effective and he is infinitely more intelligent on the ball than Jordan Henderson. He's experienced (he's won everything with us and been instrumental in the squads that won trophies) and a very big asset for United even to this day, his age is nothing as long as he is as good as he is. Delph for me is a better player also, maybe not far better than Henderson but it's my opinion that he is better. Henderson looks lost to me on the pitch, his attempts to mimic Gerrard are embarrassing and technically he is way short of anything England have put, as individual players, regularly, on the pitch in his position for many years. Only my opinion, I never expected Sunderland fans to agree.
This the same Henderson some couldnt wait to get shot of? The same Henderson some were saying was inferior to Colback?
Gutted for him but on the basis of his form this season he doesn't really deserve to be in the England squad for the euros, having said that he'll just be replaced by someone else who is equally undeserving like Wilshere who will no doubt have a few games for the bench and earn a call up.
This I can agree with, 100% There's not a huge pool to choose from atm, who deserve a call-up. Drinkwater, on merit should get the call up to the starting 11 but he just looked way out of his depth vs The Dutch.
I 'd agree that Drinkwater deserves a call up to the squad but I don't see him getting into the first team unless there are injuries, Drier I thought looked great against Germany he might be the protecting midfield player that we've been lacking since Hargreaves, I think that Noble at West Ham deserves mentioning for a place in the squad but it's not worth wasting your breath as he just doesn't seem to be in consideration in the England set up, for what it's worth I think he's a better player than Drinkwater.
Noble is one, another player is Antonio from West Ham also who has been shunned, I've Championed Ward-Prowse now for a while, obviously I like Carrick (we take more points from top clubs than any other team, often he is the reason for this but many people just do not see it) and also Delph. We are missing a leader in there for me, hopefully it can be Dier in future.
Never realised that Antonio was English to be honest, Ward-Prowse is a very good player but never seems to get any fan fare in the media but he's young enough to force his way in over the next few years, Delph is a decent player but hasn't played enough this year to be guaranteed a place in the squad. Carrick is a ball playing midfielder who controls the pace of the game and has tons of experience surely he's got to be in the squad to help the likes of Alli, Barkley, Drier etc. in the middle of the park.
Like you say mate, whoever comes in will probably be somebody who doesn't deserve to, like Wilshere. Wilshere was probably the England player I've been most excited about since Paul Scholes emerged, but he just seems to be too fragile, all too familiar story.
