I thought it might of been hard to keep him. Defiantly a Prem player as long as we don't sell him cheap.
Last year of his contract, don't know if we have offered a new one but £5 million would be a decent return on someone that could go for free next year. The downside of course is he would be great in the team Ole is building and quite difficult to replace.
Eldon - I don't think we'd miss him that much this season. We've got plenty of midfield options at Championship level. It'll be a shame of Jordan does go, but a not a huge loss in the scheme of things. No doubt he possesses Prem quality skills, but we're in the Championship right now, and from memory, I don't think he played that much in our promotion season (may be wrong on that though). He does seems injury prone, and especially after a lay off, his fitness is questionable when he returns - he struggles to get back to full speed for quite a few games. For all his quality, he can go missing and seems to lose interest. He can look lazy on times and I've watched him wander around the pitch in several games looking like a lost soul when the likes of Kimbo and Campbell were putting themselves about. I'd like him to sign a contract extension and stay to develop his obvious skills through getting us back to the Prem. He's still only 22, but right now I'd take £5M and walk away.
Sparkey, he chips in with some important goals from midfield. It's those goals that can be the difference come the end of the season. I think he'd be a big miss.
Remote - players we've experienced like Campbell, Kimbo and even Gunnar will play through the pain barrier at Championship level - I suspect from what we've seen that Mutch wont. Not saying those players necessarily have the same quality skills that Mutch possesses, but they could well give us a better shot at getting out of this tough league we're now back in. (Yes, I know that Campbell has gone, but he's been replaced by equals or even better)
I agree on the Campbell point. I think the strike force we have now will score more goals than we'd have got with FC in the line-up. It's just history suggests that teams with goals from all over the park are more likely to be promoted than those who rely solely on the strikers. Not sure we've that many goal scoring midfielders, not from open play anyway. Hey, footballing debate, long may it live!
Not in the Championship he didn't. Agree about the debate - nice to talk respectfully to one another from different standpoints. Incidentally, about Mutch "chipping in with important goals from midfield". Just took the trouble to check my facts about Mutch in our Championship winning season. He actually featured a bit more than I thought. He played in half our games - 23 in all...............and scored **** all.......... Heidar Helguson was our top scorer with 8 league goals.
Hey Ho - just checked on this story - try again 'Arry boy. http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/jordon-mutch-bid-cardiff-city-7551890
http://www.walesonline.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/cardiff-city-set-sign-three-7552114 Looks like we're not done yet in the transfer window, replacement for Mutch already lines up and another two signings before next weeks opener!
Must admit Ole has done well in this window, brought in some very good players and not paying silly money for them either. Looks like we will get £10m from Inter and a good price from 'Arry too. I think our owner and our chairman deserve a few of these
It was silly season last year DJ. Dalman certainly seems to have been a stabilising influence. Ole also appears to have less expensive tastes than Malky. As you say Dai, well done to the management. Was pleased with the new signings on display today and Ole's January signings looked more settled with Eikrem the pick of the bunch.
agree. if we get £6m isn i'd take that happily. mutch is a very good player and i'd rather keep him, but you can't turn £6m down when he's in the last year of his contract, it helps balance the books.
oh yes...our best will always be hunted, so nowt changes for us each pre season, the big difference we have these days is we can afford 2 keep most without having 2 leave them go for peanuts
Marshall, Mutch, Noone...easily the best of 'our' players last year. By 'our' I mean not just bought in for the premiership.
