Just ripped from SSN.

Skysports.com has learnt Blackburn Rovers defender Phil Jones is at Manchester United having a medical as he closes on a move to Old Trafford.

The in-demand centre-half is also a target for Arsenal and Liverpool but it would appear United have stolen a march on their Premier League rivals in a transfer race that could be concluded soon.

Liverpool were thought to be the early front-runners for the England Under 21 international but Sir Alex Ferguson, with a healthy transfer chest of his own, is set to land a player many believe will be a mainstay for the senior national side for years to come.

It is understood United have offered the player a five-year contract, despite widespread reports he was to undergo a medical at Liverpool's training ground.

The 19-year-old was supposed to travel to Denmark on Wednesday with the England Under 21s for this summer's European Championship.

Does this mean that a certain Mr Evans will be pushed even further down the pecking order? After all, we have seen the breakthrough of Chris Smalling this season, coupled with Ferdinand, Vidic and now Jones, his first team chances are going to be minimal.

Id be delighted.... However, my present mood tells me there is more chance of Thora Herd appearing on the cover of playboy.

As long as we don't get took to the cleaners. I worry now that inlight of this impending Henderson deal coupled with the bent transfer fee clubs will hold us to ranso
as that old "£40m warchest" gem will be bandied all over the press. Id say go in with a lowish offer of £6m. and if they take the pee walk away, don't go over £8m

Phil Jones from Blackburn is on his way to Man Utd meaning they'll have Vidic, Ferdinand, Smalling, Jones and Evans along with the likes of Brown and O'Shea. Evans could potentially slip to 5th choice centre back. I say he's worth a go on a permanent deal. He was quality when he came on loan so Brucie sign him up.

most look ok to me...

I'd love to see Johnny Evans back but would love to see a good LB come in first as I feel that LB is our priority in defence-not taking anything away from Bardo's efforts last season.

Who is the left back?

That was a seperate thread I posted but got moved here because I hadn't seen this one. I can't think of any left backs off the top of my head. I like Bardsley there but we are crying out for a left footed left back so Bardsley can move to RB. I reckon we might go foreign if we want a good quality left back for a non-extortionate price.
