Jonny Evans is set to sign according to numerous media sources including Rob Tanner in the Mercury Apparently we have activated his £3M release clause but the stumbling block is his agent requesting £4M for himself Dangerous game as if we pay that once then every agent will ask us for stupid amounts I would sign him and get Dragovic’s loan permanent and that would be the defence sorted. Just sign a number 10, keep Mahrez, sell Slimani and Ulloa and buy another striker and we are done
Do you know much about it the contract? My thoughts... are that if he has asked for a £100k contract as is reported then I am fine for it. I am concerned if it is more than 2 years though otherwise it can be a costly move in the long run to have something on that money not playing and not able to move on. About the agent fees... all in all £7m is a snip, but it does get a dangerous precedent. Very much a dick move though, he could prevent the player moving to where he actually wants to play football through that behaviour. I wonder if Evans gets a say on his fees? Ultimately, him next to Maguire on paper looks a very solid defence. Add to that someone who, on paper, looks a class RB and two fair options at left back we have probably sorted our biggest problem area. If Mahrez stays, im happy with that squad.
His agent knows that some club will pay him £4m, whether it be us or not. People sating £7m is a snip without thinking that all the extra money from his "actual value" will be stapled onto his wages anyway. Probably better to fork out £20m for Mawson and have him on half the wages for 5 years.
I agree about it being a bad precident. Agents need to do one, make him lower his demands. It’s not about the fact the transfer fee is low, it’s the principal
The words 'principle' and 'football' don't belong in the same sentence unless 'principle' is preceded by the words 'lack of'.
You are right, I guess I mean more for the club not to be taken to the cleaners by other agents. That said he’s a good players so depends on other options
Jonny Evans is definitely on the move and i know where he's going...... Just sat next to him at Belfast City airport , he was off to Heathrow
Tbf his price isn’t going to rise, he isn’t at the World Cup so won’t have a great tournament to get more suitors or be off the grid to be sorting his future. As the clubs (us or others) we have the leverage over him and his agent being greedy. If clubs were desperate he’d be signed up by now, he probably put off the likes of Man City and Arsenal who were interested last summer with his and WBA’s poor season. I get the feeling the agent may end up having to lower his ridiculous demands to get his client a new club
Either way, very pleased with this. Only minor thing is that both him and Maguire like to play on the left but I’m sure that’s not a big deal
He has officially signed https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/44411174 Dunno why I find it funny but we are going to pay the £3.5M fee in two installments No clue how much his greedy agent got though.
Even if he flops harder than a fat guy in a swimming pool, £3.5m these days for a player that will push for a starting spot is nothing.
