at least shelvey has the desire to get into the box with late runs, something that has been missing from our midfielders. (with the possable exception of maxi.)

Exactly this, a complete lack of midfielders getting into the box and supporting play has been a problem. Shelvey has been impressive in the role he has been given.

I'm a massive fan of shelvey! I have already said this on a different topic ... With Shelvey he has something different to hendo, spearing and adam, when he gets th ball he always looks for a forward pass and if there isn't one on he will then go back and keep possession, whereas the other three always go backwards all the time before looking forwards. This also has a knock on effect with our attacking players (maxi, gerrard, bellamy and suarez impaticular) cos they know how he plays and as soon as he gets the ball they know he will give it to their feet which makes them get into smart positions and overall results in us playing much nicer football as more players are on the same wave length

With Spearing and hendo (both of which are important in their own way) as soon as they get the ball it seems as though they have to go backwards or sideways, which isn't always a bad thing but can result in us playing a really slow tempo .... Shelvey just passes it quickly and has a really good eye for a pass and has a good footballing brain!

He is a good player and with our injury's in our midfield he has a couple of games to show the gaffer that he wants that position

Think he will become better then he already is and like said he is only 20 so......

Better than Spearing for sure (he should be sold IMO) and I think he plays well in CM with Henderson. For the Final i can see him starting in a 4-5-1 formation, instead of Carroll

He has the desire, he wants to play footy and gives his all on the pitch. If he is of the required quality is the big question and patience is required. Too many of our fans want instant world class players, give him time and he may be a good player for us.

He is not a good player. He weakens our team. Poor first touch, no pace, can't beat a man. I've seen nothing to convince me he is any good. He may do well at a lesser club but at Liverpool we need winners and in my opinion he is not.

He is a rubbish player, every time he plays I cringe. He is built like an Ox, but aweful at footy

His freekick might have been terrible but i like that he wanted to take it (at the end). He has a presence and always moves the ball into dangerous areas. He doesn't stop after a good pass either, he then bombs forward to provide a threat. A midfield of him, Henderson and Lucas could actually have a very nice balance when they've developed more.

I agree - he has a lot of self belief, much like Spearing in that they won't hide if they make a mistake. They constantly want the ball.

Definitely better than Henderson but then my dog is better than him <ok> I like Shelvey to be fair but all the young lads need to start improving and fast...and how many players can we afford to keep playing who can't hit the proverbial cows arse with a ****in banjo??

I think Henderson is good. I would say Shelvey is necessarily better than him. Shelvey and Spearing, all though both midfielders, are still very different and hard to compare. Shelvey does offer some thing we have lacked all season though.

He has ambition, drive and ability. With experience and a team playing well around him he could flourish.

Showing far more than Henderson, who we should view as his peer.

It's hard to criticise a midfield trio of Spearing/Shelvey/Henderson when they're playing together. Lucas was developed by playing alongside Alonso/Gerrard/Mascherano so was able to learn in a relatively safe maner. Gerrard came into the team with Hamman/McAlister playing next to him. Carragher with Hyypia/Henchoz. Etc.

Young players need to play alongside established players to develop properly. Any of those three playing next to Lucas would play much better, learn more, learn faster and fit in to the team quicker. Unfortunately, Lucas will spend next season teaching Adam how to play!

I feel Gerrard could really help Shelvey come along though as they appear to want to play in similar roles.

Think the Center Midfield showed last night that signings are needed. All 3 played poorly IMO, consistently losing the ball- this could be deemed a one off but for me none should get a regular role. Henderson has played all season and looked average, adding nothing to the team. Spearing is useless and Shelvey still not ready- with some time on loan necessary. Lucas will normally play, as would Gerrard but another High Quality midfielder is needed (Aquilani is possible, Banega, Sahin etc)

Lucas' injury ruined it all (not his fault, obviously.) Shelvey would have benefited from continuing his loan spell at Blackpool. I do, however, think last night was simply an off game for him. He's definitely too good for our reserves, so belongs in our squad as it stands.

Not useless. He needs to develop, like I said. People are willing to give everyone else time, so give him time also. Just like Henderson will not learn or develop playing alongside Shelvey/Spearing, those two gain very little either.

It's like putting Coates alongside Wisdom with Kelly at RB. That would collapse our defence completely and they'd not learn much at all but it doesn't make them ****.

The three all have potential, but need to learn alongside our experienced players to profit and develop properly.
