JONES BLOG: SPEED DEATH SO TRAGIC

QPR Assistant Manager Mick Jones brings us his latest blog direct from the Harlington training ground …

What can I say about Gary Speed? It is absolutely tragic.

I was with his agent Hayden Evans at Nottingham Forest on Tuesday night when they played Leeds. He is devastated, and he only went to that game to get out of the house and try to get his mind away from it all. But Gary is in his thoughts every waking moment, and I can understand that.

I met Gary with Kevin Randell in Norway when we were looking at Petter Vaagan Moen, and he was such a charming man. It is just devastating.

Last weekend we lost 2-1 at Norwich. Following the match Neil (Warnock) spoke about his disappointment at not being allowed to bring a goalkeeper in on loan after Paddy Kenny and Brian Murphy were both ruled out through injury.

Personally, I can't understand this 25-man squad ruling. No-one has been able to explain to me why we are doing it. We have got five players outside that 25-man squad who are not allowed to play in the First Team, and we are paying their wages every week. It is ridiculous.

The five lads who can't play - unless they go out on loan - still have to train and keep themselves fit, knowing there's no match for them. It is difficult for them because we have got some very good lads here who are top professionals, and they can't play.

The goalkeeping situation speaks for itself. I was with Neil on Thursday night and to see the Manager go through what he went through trying to bring a keeper in was ridiculous. It was so obvious that it was an emergency. You can't make situations like that black and white.

But let's not forget that Radek (Cerny) is a very good goalkeeper. He has been suffering from inflammation of the joints recently, which happens to a lot of player his age who have played so many games.

Is he 100 per-cent fit? Yes, he is 100 per-cent fit, but if he played too many games we would need to get another goalkeeper.

But he is more than adequate. He played for Tottenham in the Premier League, and has got a lot of experience. Paddy is a better judge than me, and he says Radek is a top, top goalkeeper.

We knew he wouldn't let us down against Norwich, and he didn't. He could not be blamed for either of the goals.

Obviously the defeat at Carrow Road was disappointing and now we are preparing for Saturday's game against West Brom at Loftus Road.

After that, it's Liverpool away and Manchester United at home, but that doesn't put greater pressure on us this weekend. For me, it is very, very important to bounce back after you lose a game, regardless of who you are up against.

I fancy us against anybody at Loftus Road - I don't care who they are. Anybody who comes to our place is going to be in for a hard match, so I am not too bothered about the so-called big games.

The simple fact is the game against West Brom is very important because we need to bounce back after a defeat.

Oh dear. Even I can see it was brought in to stop the likes of Manure, Mantitty and the Scum buying and stockpiling talent that could be doing a good job playing for teams lower down the division.

Not all footballers care whether they are playing regularly or not these days, especially when they can be kicking their heals on £30,000 +++ a week.
