Wathin MOTD2 how ****e has he got!!? Pity to see a once great defender looking so distinctively average.

In the past decade i'd have Colo as our greatest CB but Woodgates a very close 2nd!

Agreed, but I would still put Woodgate ahead of Colo, he was the best defender I ever saw at the club.

Woodgate was amazing when he was with us. In my opinion he would've been the prime centre half for England if it wouldn't have been for injuries. Anyone who makes Titus look like a decent centre half must be darn good.

This. Also Titus back then in 02' when we bought him was quite decent aswell. <ok>

Hughes Bramble Woodgate Bernard backline was quality back then.. we also had Dabizas/Caldwell as back-up.

I was going to say that you are only as good as the team around you. Then I remembered the ****e Woodgate was partnered with.

Unfortunately, injuries have once again destroyed what could have been a great career.

Probably the best English centre back of his generation. Way better than John Terry, Rio Ferdinand. Just a pity injuries got the better of him

Suppose that's what such a horrible injury history does to a player. Shame.

Yep, Woodgates number one for me, ahead of Colo (for now!) and Albert. Pity about the injuries, I think we could've seen the best out of Steven Taylor a lot earlier had we not had to sell the broken carcass of Woody to Madrid. Best bit of business ffs ever did.

Saw him in his first game and he stood out a mile. Thought he was brilliant and would be our captain and captain of England one day.

Just didn't think he'd be moving on.

Even though he was only here 1 and a half years and was injured for probably a year of that, it shows how good he was when we say he is our best centre back over the past decade and better than Colo!

We've been very unfortunate when you consider the England internationals that have played at Newcastle United but had their careers destroyed by injury...

Woodgate, Owen and Dyer are the first to spring to mind.

Imagine how good they would have been without those injuries... <wah>...

Dyer's a player I really feel for. Just never has any luck at all. Could have been class.

Yep, he's a shadow of what he used to be. Much like Terry & Ferdinand who are way off what they used to be. Different reasons though.

Woodgate was class when he played.

A bit off topic here but I think the best current england CB was on show at st james the other day. Not Saylor.... but Phil Jagielka. I think hes class.

Woodgate was ahead of Colo as much as I love Colo. Woodgate was just something else, remember the 0-0 with Marseilles just before Drogba moved to Chelsea, absolutely had him in his pocket all game. Lost the ball to him once, ran back and made an awesome tackle, Drogba just threw his arms up and laughed.
