Use your bloody fingers to type you idiot!! :)

Jonas would be a good signing - as long as it's not another Milton Nunez situation and we don't end up with Jonas Gutierrez!

We deco need another striker, at the moment can't see any of ours getting anywhere near 10, apart from that we look not bad at all

We should get in quickly mind before he gets into a bar fight or something! We seem to jinx these types of players

The Spanish media have officially confirmed that Valencia forward Jonas is no longer a player at the club. It was reported yesterday that the Brazilian had said his goodbyes to his teammates after three seasons with the Spanish side. The 30 year old has been linked with a move to Sunderland during the recent transfer window and the North East club can still sign the player despite the transfer window closing yesterday.

Super Deporte report today that Jonas is now a free agent and therefore can be signed by clubs outside the transfer window. The Spanish side had hoped to get a transfer fee for the player but were unable to make a deal happen before the transfer window closed. Valencia have brought in Benfica forward Rodrigo and Manchester City star Alvaro Negredo on a season’s loan so Jonas was no longer wanted at the club.

The problem with this right now is that he is placing himself in the shop window just at the time when there is nothing else left to buy so a wages bidding war may happen!

According to Super Deporte Jonas will now go away for a few days before he makes a decision on his future. It has been claimed that Jonas will soon make a statement once he has time to reflect. Sunderland will be looking with interest with these developments but Sevilla are also keen on the player.

We covered the story in July that Sunderland had put in an offer for Jonas and were hoping to land him during the transfer window. The Premier League side were trying to take advantage of his contract situation at Valencia which had only a year to run. Valencia were looking for a transfer fee at the time but Sunderland can now land him on a free.

I could definitely see Wickham getting between 10-15 goals if he was played as the main striker..

Well if we were in for him during this window, the club should give some indication soon regarding a deal, if not, I would still like Gus to give a press conference to explain his feelings relating to his, 'hits' and his, 'misses.'

I do believe his intentions were honourable and that he will be annoyed that he has been let down in many ways.

I want to see and hear that disappointment and passion in his voice and in his body language.

Good record last season 1 in 2 in the league, 20 appearances and 10 goals. You can't buy that sort of player for 10m usually what wrong with him.

154 goals in 350ish games in his career is a very good record.

Why can everybody see Connor is the main man upfront. If Fletch isn't producing goals after another 1-2 games Wickham must go into the middle.
I think, courtesy of injuries, Gus will stumble on the right players, formation etc. That's not me knocking Gus but surely there has to be room for Giacch behind Wickham with Buckley and Alvarez down the wings.

Seems to me Poyet is trying to shoehorn the players into a style of play. With our best 11 on the field, including Giacherini and Buckley, they seem more naturally suited to 4-4-2. Be interesting to see who Alvarez pushes out and what that does for the team ...

How can people say Buckley is in our strongest 11 ahead of Johnson after 1 half decent performance?

Because Johnson has had about 5 good games since he signed. The lad really needs to find his form and consistency. On his day he is unplayable but he does not have enough of those days.

Sunderland have been offered free agent Jonas Gonçalves Oliveira since the transfer window slammed shut.

The former Valencia striker has been released from his contract and his offers from around the world but the forward wants to play in England, and a representative has spoken to several Premier League clubs – including a phone call to Black Cats’ representatives. Gustavo Poyet is understood to be happy with his squad but there would be a decision to make if the Brazilian was serious about entertaining the possibility of a move to Wearside.

Jonas has eight Brazil caps and is highly-rated enough to have talked to Benfica recently. But his representatives are keen to explore other possibilites, and are revisiting interest that was shown last year.

Sunderland are yet to initiate further contact with the player and it is understood that the striker, who scored 35 goals in 102 games for Valencia, is looking for a long-term contract. The Black Cats have taken a risk on several South American captures and signed Ricky Alvarez from Inter on deadline day.

Jonas’ agent Tiago Goncalves said: “Now the athlete is free we believe that in the coming days we can decide which path we will follow.”
