I don't know much about it, but it was too good an opportunity to miss for a thread title. Jonas Gutierrez has won a discrimination case against Newcastle United after an employment tribunal found he was dropped because he had cancer. The Argentina midfielder was a regular at St James Park but was frozen out after returning from testicular cancer. Gutierrez had an automatic one-year extension clause in his contract, based on appearances. And the tribunal found that Newcastle deliberately avoided playing him so that he wouldn’t reach the required number of appearances to trigger the extension. During his six years at the club, Gutierrez was a firm fans’ favourite. While the club will have to pay up to £2m compensation, the vast majority of Newcastle fans on Twitter think that’s the least he deserves. A remedy hearing will be heard in due course to decide the amount of compensation Gutierrez will receive. https://www.dreamteamfc.com/c/jonas-gutierrez-wins-newcastle-discrimination-case/
We all slate the players these days, call em mercenaries etc but they are treat like pieces of meat. Glad he gets his money. Seems a decent fella.
The way Newcastle United have treated this man is contemptuous. The people of Newcastle know he's been badly treated and are fully behind him. It's the club that's ****, most certainly not the supporters.
