Rugby Union isn't my sport but it's not difficult to recognise greatness when someone is as special as Jonah Lomu was. He was arguably the first, and possibly only, superstar of the game. A giant of a man, he was also very quick and had the ability to destroy defences on his own. His power and pace changed the game as wingers weren't supposed to be built like him! By all accounts he was a very nice guy off the pitch. Very sad that he has passed away so young. RIP Jonah.

Yeah. He was special. Hell of a shock. I didn't know he'd had a kidney transplant. RIP, big man.

Was lucky enough to see him play, for the All Blacks v Wales and also at the Hong Kong sevens in 1996.

It was the latter that he stood out in most, was really very, very entertaining when playing 7's.

Proper sportsman, such a shame. **** me, forty years old!

A really sad day for sport when one of the greatest sportsmen to ever live passes away so young.

I do like the Rugby too, and I've never seen an athlete like Jonah Lomu. An 18 stone guy who could run 100m in under 11 seconds, not to mention how good his agility was.

He will be remembered as the greatest Rugby player of all time, and one of the greatest sportsmen:biggrin:

Popped over to see if there was a match day thread for our game and saw this one. Well done guys, nice words. He was the first superstar of rugby and singlehandedly changed the game. In regard to his kidney transplant the donor was a friend of Jonah's and a well known disc jockey here in NZ. Think most people thought it was prank at first but soon realized he was seriously ill.
