With the news that Newcastle have given Pardew a new 8 year contract, shouldn't we be getting our finger (or pen, if you prefer) out ??? http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/newcastle-united/9571358/Newcastle-manager-Alan-Pardew-handed-eight-year-contract-by-owner-Mike-Ashley.html
Think for a few years now starting with Hodgson that Fulham go for the rolling contract with their managers. This tends to suit both sides. As there isn't really compensation set into managers leaving, except payment of contracts if sacked or if they leave the club for a bigger club the club might get a small payment. I think Jol will leave eventually when tapped-up by an european Champions League team, or the Dutch National team. But on the bright side this would mean we have done well, while he is manager.
I dunno if Jol would go, we brought him in from Ajax, one of Europe's best known clubs. Life in Fulham probably suits him well and he's wanted to come back to London for a while. The only job I could see him leaving for in short term is Dutch national team
I'd like to see him stay for 5 years or more. He'd have a chance then for his philosophy to run through the clubs teams.
Jol obviously feels like getting his frustrations off his chest right now. I've posted (under the 'Team v Southampton' thread) an article put out by the Club and below is an even more perspective one in The Times - I've produced it in full cos you can't generate a link to the paper's site. It's a really powerfull statement on a wide range of issues. If anyone ever doubted his vision and what matters to him, they surely can't any longer. There should only be one conclusion and that is a new contract by the Club immediately. Oh, and also full support from the fans.
Lobe the guy even more now. Totally Fulhamish. Let's get him on a lengthy contract so he can really make his mark.
Apologies Fulhamish 1977 - you got there as I was typing It seems as though the Club have invoked the 1 year option on Jol's contract. At least that's what I believe is being said in this article on the Club site where the man said, http://www.fulhamfc.com/news/2012/november/08/jol-on-contracts If correct, then it's terrific news. Jol also re-iterated what has already been posted elsewhere about Brede's contract.
I’d take this article with a pinch of salt, since it comes from our old ’friends’ Goal.com. However, given that contracts extensions across the board are apparently on the Club’s agenda it makes sense that Jol’s is one of them. Here is the article - Source: http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896/premier-league/2013/03/07/3801020/- While there may be some truth in so-called ‘tensions over recruitment’, I feel the real issue is over the length of his contract extension. Jol has made no bones about the fact that he wants more time and is probably looking for a repeat of the original 2 years, with a 1 year option. The Club don’t seem to want to make that kind of commitment, otherwise why have they this far only chosen to take up the current 1 year option? I for one don’t understand why they don’t offer a completely new deal. please log in to view this image
I would like him to stay but the end of this season isn't a bad time to bring someone new in, should we have to. Jol's rebuilding hasn't got much further past knocking down the walls and with many of his replacements on loan deals or short contracts- and the old guard coming to the end of their careers- it's ready for someone to put their mark on the team- providing money is made available. I hear Vincenzo Montella has done a good job at Fiorentina, maybe he could be tempted back to the cottage if Jol went.
I find this a bit stupid. What is the difference between himself and Riether... If the club has the option in both cases to extent for 1 more year or make the transfer permanent what's the point of negotiating?? That's according to Jol's commnents regarding Riether's contract...
And today's good news, according to the Guardian, is - "Fulham have activated the one-year option on Martin Jol's contract and the manager is set to remain in charge for next season. There has been confusion in some quarters about Jol's future, principally because he has not signed any paperwork on the option, which was bolted on to the two-year deal that he agreed when he took over at Craven Cottage in June 2011. But as the option is on Fulham's side, there is nothing for Jol to sign. The club informed him last October that they wanted for him to stay for the extra year and they have continued to plan with him. Fulham have made no announcement regarding the option on Jol and nor do they intend to, as they feel that there is no need for any fanfare" please log in to view this image Here is a link to the full Guardian article - http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2013/mar/20/fulham-martin-jol-contract
