Fulham boss Martin Jol wants to bring Sunderland midfielder Steed Malbranque back to the club. The People says Jol is showing an interest in the Frenchman, regarded as one of Fulhamâs all-time greats â yet made available by Sunderland. Jol signed Malbranque from Fulham for Tottenham in 2006, after the player had spent five successful seasons at Craven Cottage. Although he is intent on lowering the average age of Fulhamâs squad, Jol could make an exception for 31-year-old Malbranque, as he will not cost big money. were awash with midfield now so thanks for the service, onwards and upwards
Unless it effects us bringing in players I wouldn't sell anyone who is in and around the first team. If we sell malbranque and don't bring in another midfielder who do we play on the left. Imo Sess is wasted there if that would be the general opinion.
wasn't steed signed by Kean and all the guys he signed were on massive money, if we don't sell now we will never recoup anything for him and lets face it his legs have gone and his shooting boots are still at Fulham
Been great for Sunderland and has definately gave his all for us but I feel it is time for him to move on and £3million would be a fair deal for both clubs, but I would want us to put the money towards a striker or Krancjar but I doubt it.
As said we can't turn down 3 mil and hopefully SB gets it to buy another half decent player. Steed has done okay for us up till last season where he lost his way a bit so probably better for both parties to move him on, we get cash and he gets a fresh start.
The rumour trail has been gathering on this one and I sense it may be true. Gotta love Steed, sometimes he does things with his feet that just baffle you - steeeeeeeeeeeeee-e-e-d Would surely get a great reception here if he came back with Fulham.
Remember our paper thin squad that we have just started filling out lads? Don't get rid unless we have a replacement! Yes, we have quite a few midfielders but Steed can still do a job for us on the left.
I think Bruce is used to running a small squad from his time at Wigan and Birmingham. I think he prefers to have more quality and higher wages for fewer players than the Keane tactic of filling the club out with a lot of dross. I'd tend to agree with Bruce's strategy but he needs to get the fitness right. One of the few players who kept fit last season we sold. The two at the back we have brought in I can only hope stay fit though. For me we still need 2 signings of 1st team quality possibly three depending on who goes. We have some good youth coming through and I'd rather that they were blooded than journeymen.
Regarding Steed. I've loved him at Sunderland and he can keep the ball well but he has lacked the final ball and scoring really. No real end product but tackling back and commitment first rate. Legs as said before are gone.
This sums it up for me. Love Steed as a player and he's done well for us, but if we sell next season (32) it will be for £1m at most. And we all know he won't last the full 90 on a regular basis. Keane had to offer silly salaries to people like Steed, McCartney, Ferdinand, Rico to get them to come up here- remember he signed these players when we were a yo-yo club and they have fulfilled their objective of establishing us as a top flight team. Would let him go for £3m if the money was available to reinvest.
He would not be one of the first out of the door for me, there are several, 'sitting-on-their-wages' others that should go first, Steed can still do a job whereas the others cannot. So Steed has been good for us, but watching him last season it looked as if he was never going to score and he did not. Sell him to Fulham and I bet he gets 10!
he had a cany good game yesterday like looked to go forward whenever he got the ball, and like someone said he was constantly tracking back and getting stuck in. great little player imo
iLL TAKE YOU UP ON THAT IF WE DO, AND BOOK YOU A SESSION WITH SHAMELESS SYD AND OSCAR IF IT COMES OFF
I had to have a "stretch" done 20 years ago, so nothing frightens me arsehole wise. Apart from a tooled-up mug.
