The Mirror has reported that Matin Jol is interested in taking the Danish International Lindegaard from Manchester United for a price that may be under £5m. There have been rumors that the move for Stekelenberg from Roma is still a possibility. Schwarzer has not signed a new contract yet, there are rumors he may retired, but others have said he wants to go to the next World Cup if Australia qualify. Fulham could get money for Stockdale from Hull if his loan move to Hull is made permanent for next season. Guess all 3 are good options if Schwarzer retires.
I think I'd prefer Stekelenberg, but Lindegard wouldn't be a bad signing and probably cheaper (both in terms of fee and wages). I read this morning that the Stekelenberg deal would probably be for around £5.1m, which is a lot more than I remember being quoted in January.
It was only a loan being discussed in January, Captain. Jol said at the time that he wasn't interested in spending £4-6m on a new keeper. Stekelenburg has two years left on his deal at Roma having signed for €6.3m two years ago. I can certainly see him wanted to move on to a club where he is playing regularly in order to make sure he continues his international career. That brings him onto our radar, as we can certainly offer a first team place instead of a competition with another top keeper (which would be the case at most Champions League teams). However, given the contract and fee I can't see him being available for less than £5m. We obviously need to see what our other options are, but I don't think £5m for Stekelenburg is a bad deal; for comparison, we paid £7m for a 31 year old Van Der Sar. Whilst Stekelenburg isn't as good as Edwin, there is certainly good precedent for us signing Dutch goalkeepers from top Italian teams!
Ah, my mistake. I was under the impression that he's back in their first team. Either way, I think it would be a realistic price and a good signing. You might be right that it's more than Jol is happy to pay for a keeper though. It's hard to see him getting anyone that good for less in the domestic market.
Reports that Stockdale will be leaving in the summer, what/ 3/4mil. add to this and,we could go for a quality keeper, come on Fulham, lets go for quality ,and not look at the bargain bucket brigade.
Hopefully Al Fayed backs him with a decent transfer kitty and doesn't play the 'we stayed up with this squad so why change it' card. There must be £15-20m in the bank
Couldn't agreee more rosc. Bit surprised at the £4m price tag for Stockdale but that may be indicative of fees for domestic players next season, given the extra TV money on the way. And if there is interest from not only Hull, then who knows. "Fulham will accept an offer of around £4m for goalkeeper David Stockdale. The 27-year-old is attracting attention from West Ham but has spent most of the season on loan at Hull City and is keen to sign a permanent deal if Steve Bruce’s side seal promotion to the Premier League with a win at Barnsley on Saturday." If anyone pays £4 million for Stockdale I'll be staggered, and even more so if it's us. I like the lad but wouldn't want us to go over £1.5 million, £2 million at the very most.
Apparently West Ham are willing to stump up the money for Stockers so looks like you might miss out on that one. A PL standard keeper under 30 who is English and has top flight experience? Seems a more than sensible price.
If they are then fair play to you, you've done a good job of getting money for players in recent years (Bullard ). However, if he goes for anything like £4 million I'll be glad we missed out. We could most likely get Mannone for far less than that. Stockdale has been steady for us but Mannone was outstanding.
Also, I'd say Jaaskelainen is a fantastic 'keeper so unless he's leaving I'd question why they'd pay £4 million for a new no. 2.
Fair enough. Jussi is 38 now and although I doubt Big Sam will be in any particular rush to get him out the door, like Jol, he will already have his eye on replacing him with a younger keeper.
You'd have thought, at 27 now and having had his first real full season of regular football, Stockdale would be keen to join a club where he's seen as the number one. Being no. 2 again, even if it's only for a year or two would be really frustrating for him and halt all the progress he'll have made whilst with us.
I can't answer that, as only Big Sam can relay his goalkeeper selection plans for next season. I, like you, rate Jussi highly but it's not unreasonable for Sam to replace him next season as he will be 39, and may even look to find a bigger or better club. Liverpool maybe?
Well, it'd certainly seem more likely if Jaaskelainen were to leave, but I'd be surprised if he did. The fact that he'll be 39 makes it more likely that he'll stick it out with West Ham until he's no longer up to it for me, and as you lot know with Schwarzer, that could be another 2/3 even 4 years for Jaaskelainen.
Jol's current take on Goalkeepers - Jol is in the market for another keeper and has been linked with a move for Roma's Maarten Stekelenburg. He added: “If I want another goalkeeper I won’t take a mug, I would like to take a good goalkeeper. And a good goalkeeper is someone who could be a number one." “We had [Sinan] Bolat here from Belgium but we are still looking. It is not the main priority.” Source: http://www.fulhamchronicle.co.uk/fulham-fc/2013/04/26/82029-33240399/
