Leaving it all to his agent eh... So he'll be wanting more money then. Sounds like he rejected the last contract offer then?

Jol was a tad laid back about Hangeland's contract in today's press interviews -

Here is the full article from the Independent, which includes Jol's reaction to the rumours he was interested in Balotelli (whose Agent is also Jol's) -

    http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/premier-league/martin-jol-says-it-would-be-a-bit-strange-if-brede-hangeland-chose-to-quit-fulham-8413203.html

PS Just as an interest point, Mino Raiola is also Pajtim Kasami's Agent

News coming out of Merseyside is that Everton have given up on Vegard Forren (who we are also linked with) and instead will try to sign Hangeland.

Despite all the stories about how little money Moyes has had available, he has in fact spent £66m in the last 5 years and currently Everton have a surplus of £12.5m from their summer dealings. If, as expected, John Heitinga leaves Moyes should have more than enough to pay for Hangeland as his replacement. From Brede's point of view it could well be the last big pay day he seems to want.

I wouldn't have thought Everton could offer much more in the way of wages than us? Of course I could well be wrong.

Wouldn't take much Bidley. Even if he was offered £10k per week more and a 1 year longer contract he'd net something like £3.5m.

Of course I don't know what our current offer to Brede is, but the length of the contract could yet again be the issue. And we do know the Club's policy about what they are prepared to offer the over 30s, which is fine in principle. Perhaps there should be exceptions to the rule

I really don't see what the fuss is about. Admittedly a 2-year contract is more secure and reassuring than a 1-year contract, but does Brede really think we're going to release him at the end of next season, if he's playing well and injury-free? And if we do (which, come on, we won't), is he going to be out of work for long? No. What is the issue with a 12-month rolling contract? It was good enough for Sir Woy.

For a player, the trouble with a one year contract is lack of security. If you get an injury towards the end of one, nobody is going to give you another contract until you're fit. That might mean a prolonged period of not getting paid at all. I don't blame Hangeland (or Murphy, or any other player) for preferring security. That's just not the case with managers (and with managers even a long-term contract doesn't mean you won't get sacked if things suddenly go badly - another important difference between their contracts and players' ones). That said, I still don't believe Brede's going anywhere.

Do Liverpool know his contract is up at the end of the season? :emoticon-0112-wonde

I'd like to think we have a replacement in the wings from a lovely 2nd division Dutch club for around £100k, he takes to the Prem like a duck to water and our problems are solved. If they've got a midfielder that likes to pass the ball in a forward trajectory that would be great too! <ok>

No doubt our 'friends from the other side' will be here soon - the local paper (whose football reporter tends to be pretty close to sources at Loftus Road) is reporting that Redknapp is going to bid £4m for Brede.

"The Fulham Chronicle reports that Harry Redknapp is hoping to make the Norwegian centre-back one of his first signings for the club in a £4million deal.

Hangeland has been linked with a number of moves away from Craven Cottage over the past few seasons due to his consistent high level of performances in the heart of the Cottagers’ defence. Arsenal and Liverpool are amongst a number of clubs who have come knocking in recent years, and now QPR are set to try their luck at luring the 31-year-old away from Fulham.

Redknapp appears to be taking priority in trying to plug the holes in his leaky defence, which has shipped 33 goals in just 19 league games this season.

If the giant defender was to leave Martin Jol’s side he would end a near five year stay with the club. After joining Fulham in 2008 from FC Copenhagen, Hangeland has gone on to make over 200 appearances for the Premier League side, scoring 11 times."

You just can't rule this one out. If we had sufficient cover I'd sell for 4m but alas we don’t. I'd be concerned if this were to happen. Still a 3 year deal at 31 - you can't turn that down at his age.

I think Hangeland should not be the captain any more. The longer this take to resolve combined with his lack of leadership and poor performances do not help the team. Unfortunately he is one of the longest serving players and nobody else that could take over unless from Duff...

If Hangeland is stripped of the captaincy, which I don't believe he will be, I could see him leaving as it would be a smack in the face for him. If we were able to get Douglas or Samba in, and another back up CB then I'd say sell to be honest. We have to judge on recent performances and Hangeland's haven't been anywhere near acceptable. Ideally I'd sell at the end of the season, but we could lose him for nothing then.

What is it about us and players running down their contracts so we are forced to sell!

It has been mentioned before but is relevant, the contract affair dragging on may very well be affecting his performances. Another reason why we need to sign him up or ship him out.

Having said at the start of the season that I didn't think Hangeland was captaincy material, I don't think now is the time to take it away from him. As Bandit says, it would be a slap in the face that could push him out the door in January. I don't think he should be captain next season though.

I hope he stays, but on his current form it wouldn't be a disaster if he went as long as we get a suitable replacement signed first.

I see no point in wishing Brede away. The H&H pairing has been our best and a quick-fix replacement in the short-term January transfer window looks a panic, which could make things worse.

And (Aye Captain, yet again), leave Brede with the captaincy for the rest of the season.
