    Edited IRA graffiti takes Twitter by storm

    A picture of edited paramilitary graffiti in Strabane which has been altered to encourage people to join the library rather than the IRA has taken Twitter by storm.

    The image, first tweeted by Londonderry author Brian McGilloway, had been retweeted more than 1,500 times by lunchtime on Monday.

    Hollywood actress Minnie Driver was among those to spread the image which, having read ‘Join the IRA’, now reads ‘Join the Library’.

    The person who edited the graffiti is understood to be 28 year-old Chris McLaughlin, who was home from Belfast for the weekend.

    One Twitter user said it was a “super-positive way to start a week”.

    Chris said he is “glad everyone sees it as such a positive story”.
