Johnson relishing Boro clash Lee Johnson says his players are “fresh” and looking forward to the visit of Middlesbrough. Tony Pulis brings his early league leaders to Ashton Gate in the Sky Bet Championship on Saturday (August 14th, 3pm) – a fixture City have been victorious in on the last three occasions in BS3. Despite suffering a Carabao Cup exit to Plymouth Argyle on Tuesday night, the head coach stresses there will be no hangover and attentions in the City camp have already turned to clinching the club’s first victory of the new campaign. “Our attentions turn back to the Championship very, very quickly,” Johnson told BCTV. “We are already over the defeat to Plymouth. It’s disappointing but we’ve got a very big game in the Championship and we’re looking forward to it. “We want three points in every game and we will be going out for that. I think the football we have played has been good up to a certain point. It’s proven we need to improve in certain areas and we are looking forward to doing that. “It’s not a huge challenge to do that, it’s just finishing those little partnerships and intricacies between players and when we do, I am sure we will start putting a number of goals past teams!” The City boss is relishing the opportunity of coming up against of the most experienced managers in the division and believes this is the type of game his players “thrive” in. “They are the big hitters of the division but not one we fear at all,” he continued. “We thrive in these type of games. “The atmosphere at Ashton Gate will be good. We could be perceived as the underdog and I know the crowd is notorious for being the 12th man in that circumstance and the boys are looking forward to it. “We feel in our hearts we’ve got a couple of wrongs to right and we are looking forward to getting back out on to the grass on that pitch and performing.” https://www.bcfc.co.uk/news/johnson-relishing-boro-clash/
' Fresh' - 'Relishing' -' Thriving'- 'Wrongs to right' - ' Pitch and performing' Bloody hell LJ can I have some of what your on.
After those comments he had better win, and by the way I think I might have some of the stuff he's on.
Why do you say that? To me it just sounds like he's trying to motivate, not giving it the big one saying 'yeah, we're going to win easy'...
They are the big hitters, Underdogs, its a huge challenge. we need to improve, it's funny how you can play with words.
Imagine the comments on here if he said something like: ‘I’m dreading this game. Borough are better than us all over the park. We have lots of possession but can’t convert it into goals and we can’t help giving stupid goals away. I wish we hadn’t sold Flint - he’s bound to score. I can’t wait to get this one over with. We just have to try and keep their score down and hope for a 0-0 at best...... ‘ LJ is damned whatever he says - plus if he says nothing he’s judged to be afraid to face the fans He HAS to make statements like the one he made. It’s straight from the football managers phrase book.
It seems what ever words he uses, they are there to be ridiculed.. I believe we are blessed to have such a motivated and positive manager who loves the club...... I don't really care what the haters say...still no one out there, that's available at the right price that rocks my boat!!
I agree - but with the caveat that if we are in the relegation zone in December, with no clear strategy for climbing out of it, then I too will be calling for change! There is a thread on OTIB entitled ‘LJ Time to Go’ and I’ve said more or less the above by way of a reply to it. Sadly, I think the Controversy will rumble on for as long as he has any association with Bristol City.
No manager has been given a better chance at BCFC. Take the blinkers off, fans don't cross the white line - players do.
Think we will get a tanking Saturday unless there is a major improvement across the whole team. Said before the season started if he did not get of to a flying start he will be under immence pressure. 4 wins in 2018 is shocking stats.
4 Wins since Jan 2018 I'm giving him ten games then we will have a far better idea. This Striker scenario looks shocking.Think it will cost us big time.
I think every manager he's taken on has been given the same chance within the situation/circumstances....as for funding, maybe SL didn't trust the others because he sees potential of something special within LJ.......we will see and time will tell.......whatever happens, I imagine the next manager that comes in with have even more funds!! I know you won't agree, as we never will, with LJ involved...
Improved each season Got us to our first major semi-final in 30 years Achieved regularly attendances in excess of 20000 for the first time in 40 years Made a profit in transfer dealings Any manager would welcome this on their CV. Hasn't our new striker scored in both league games so far?
Sorry what is shocking? Weiman has scored in his first 2 league games for us and Diedhiou is still waiting to enter the stage. It’s our defence that is letting us down - much as I loved Flint he was part of the side which conceded so many goals from January onwards. We are scoring goals - scoring isn’t an issue - it’s CONCEDING goals we need to address. We badly need a Shaun Taylor or a Louis Carey type to sort our defence out.
You get a major increase in footfall when grounds are replaced/redeveloped. As said ten games will give us a better idea what will happen.
