Bristol City: Lee Johnson issues "well done" message to rival boss Neil Warnock

BRISTOL City head coach Lee Johnson sent out a tongue-in-cheek message to rival Championship manager Neil Warnock this weekend.

    Rotherham United boss
Warnock launched a public attack on Johnson following last week's 1-1 draw at Ashton Gate, criticising comments made by the 34-year-old in the Bristol Post.
Johnson maintained a dignified silence in the immediate aftermath, refusing to be drawn into a war of words with the 67-year-old Yorkshireman.
But he broke his self-imposed silence when speaking to journalists immediately after
City's stunning 4-1 triumph over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.

It was also a good day for the Millers boss, whose team thrashed fellow strugglers MK Dons 4-0 in
Buckinghamshire to move nine points clear of the relegation zone.

Wearing a broad grin,Johnson said: "We've gone a long way towards maintaining our status with our friend Neil having a big win at MK Dons."

Stifling a laugh, he added: "Well done Neil," before proceeding to answer questions posed by amused reporters.

City's most impressive win of the season carried them 10 points clear of third-from-bottom MK Dons and one more win from five remaining games will, in all likelihood, be sufficient to guarantee Championship football at Ashton Gate for another season.

Revenge is always best served cold.

And I would bet that next season's two games against Rotherham are the ones he would like to win over all others!

I bet Warnock appreciated Lee's comments - probably pissed himself laughing.

It's all banter with Warnock and our club - some of us take him too seriously! His lot did us a favour anyway by beating MK, so happy days all round!

I'm perfectly aware of what he is and how he goes about his business, I even have to raise a wry smile on occasion..

But, I simply wouldn't want him here as a manager playing cheating, time wasting, football.. its just not for me thanks.

I'll happily accept any favours they dish out elsewhere though..

NW will manage again, top manager, love him,or hate him,you have to admire his record.
Firmly believe he would have gone down well here, but alas it did not happen.
P.S I'm firmly a big fan of LJ,i rated him as player, where many did not.

Warnock is good for clubs willing to sacrifice the enjoyment of watching football to stay up.

Reminds me of a debate a few years back with Tony pulis and Stoke and whether they'd rather be high up in the championship and playing good football or playing his style in the prem.

Fair enough, but we could end up every season after November doing just that and next minute I'm not waking up in a box.

I'm getting to the point where if its championship and decent football and were competing that will do for me..

Sometimes the journey is more fun than the destination, there will be so much wrong if we make the Prem.

is there really exciting, fancy football in top 6-9 teams I don't think so .. goals scored between 47 and 64 ave 55 per team or 1.3 a game against 37 or .9 per game ave 13 games drawn almost 1 in 3!
as you say get there, get established, then decide on the game plan ... in a way not wanting to grind out results . but having soft pretty football is an excuse that allows for the fact we are not good enough, and would sooner see us "struggle regularly mid table " in lge 2 (champs), playing attractive football loosing by odd goals or 4 than go up and come down, prem or go between div 2 and 3 winning something occasionally! or visit to Wembglee
