please hurry up Manchester City attacker Adam Johnsonâs wages are likely to torpedo any hopes Sunderland might have of signing him this summer. The Sunderland-born winger could well leave the Etihad Stadium in the next few months after losing out on a Euro 2012 place with England, simply because he has not played enough football over the course of the season. But should he ask and be allowed to leave the Premier League champions, he will be far too pricey for Sunderland, with City likely to ask in the region of £10m and Johnsonâs £85,000 per week wages being massive stumbling blocks. It has been suggested the ex-Middlesbrough man might have to cut his wages to £60,000 to join Sunderland, but the reality is he would have to halve them at least and it is unlikely the 24-year-old will do that. Johnson has fallen out of favour with Mancini and could well leave but if he does so, Liverpool are a far more realistic destination than his hometown club. Meanwhile, another out-of-favour player â Sunderland deserter Asamoah Gyan â has been linked with a potential move to Turkish club Galatasaray. The striker was on loan to United Arab Emirates side Al Ain all last season and they remain firm favourites to sign him permanently. Some serious haggling is expected to take place over the next few weeks to decide his future â which is expected to be away from the Stadium of Light â but Al Ain remain the most serious candidates to get his signature. And if that deal happens, Sunderland will recoup the vast majority of the £13m they spent to bring him into the club in the summer of 2010.
I think Johnson will go to Spurs/Liverpool. We cannot compete with 60K wages a week. With Gyan, I would be gutted to receive less than the 13M we spent. Bruce well and truely screwed Short over there.
I'd be seriously pissed off if the best English winger outside of Ashley Young was available and we didn't go for him. Especially after Stewart ****ing Downing. How many homegrown players do City have though?
Unfortunately footballer are very money driven. Any of us would be quite happy to take a wage cut and still be a multimillionaire and play for our home town club, as well as play for one of the best managers in the business and get back into the England set up. I hope Gyan just goes now... get it done and get someone of quality in. IMO Johnson is in an impossible position, no-one is going to pay him 85k a week, I don't think many will even see 60k a week as value? Liverpool have been told to reign in the finances and I can't see Levy paying that much either. We need to show ambition and replace quality with quality. Its not going to be easy but I think MON will get the players he wants, they might not be star names but as long as they do the business on the pitch I don't care where they come from.
On the gyan note, not much being touted about over here in a ain about a move. But I can't understand the locals or their rags lol. Watch their last game till half time and he was just as lazy as he was for us before he left. Set a goal up with a pass I could have made and celebratedc with the camera and waited till the guy who had scored came to him. Sums him up really! Take the money.
