Exactly the type of player we need now that Faurlin is missing. Why haven't we bid for him?!

Derry doesn't cover enough ground and centre mid in an orthodox 4-4-2 doesnt suit Buzsaky.

Massively frustrating that we mess around trying to buy from rivals like Blackburn, Fulham and Chelsea who are obviously reluctant to sell to us. They are also relatively financially stable and are holding out to end of the month to squeeze every penny and ensure the boost the signings provide is minimised by missing massive games like Newcastle and Wigan.

Leeds need the cash and are in the league below so it is far easier to get a deal done.

More importantly Howson would improve our team so why don't we go and buy the likes of him or even Snodgrass.

Fernandes and Hughes need to some players through the door now!! And if a couple take until the end of the month so be it.

Blackburn also need the cash, or rather Barclays that they owe money to want cash from them. Hopefully we will all be dancing to the tune of the Samba later this month............

Don't think Blackburn are financially stable - not even relatively

Blackburn aren't so broke that they have to accept an offer before the end of the month. They know that Samba is a player in demand and can hold out till the end of the month to get the maximum cash for him. The fact that they have turned down two bids is proof of this and would also indicate they are not as financially desperate as you are suggesting. It's also clear in that the figure being quoted to buy him was £8 million when we were bidding £5 million and after we increased this bid the price tag is now £12 million.

It's obvious that they do have money problems and in a completely different position to Chelsea and Fulham. However they are also in a relegation fight with us and if they stay up they will make a lot more money then they could ever sell him for. They will hold out as long as they can and as should be celar to everyone now is that we need signings in pronto and not all at end of the month.

Howson is/was attainable and a quality player so we should go and get him and offer more in wages then Norwich do. If he has signed then that’s an error made by us.

No - They don't want one of their relegation rivals to take their best player. That's what this is proof of. A similar bid from an overseas club would no doubt see him off, had we not forced them to set the bar so high.

Exactly proves my inital point. Bidding for players who are rivals only makes things more difficult. Sigining someone like Howson is far more easily achievable

Apart from the fact that Norwich have bought him, subject to terms?

    That’s irrelevant.

Norwich haven’t bought him yet and today is January 18th we have had plenty of time to go in and bid for him rather than messing around with low bids for Andy Johnson that haven’t gone anywhere. Warnock is also culpable in that if it was me I would have been trying to get Howson in on Jan 1st.

Well, maybe - just maybe - they are interested in getting proven Premiership players in, rather than someone who's never played at this level before. And maybe - just maybe - they know what they are doing.

Just a thought. Certainly our current position wouldn't make me think "ooh, you know what we need right now? An unproven kid from lower leagues instead of someone with experience and know-how."

Wouldn't want him at the club if I'm honest, just a personal opinion. Never rated.

Again flawed logic. Because we buy Howson doesn’t mean we have to stop looking for a ‘proven premier league player’. Can buy someone else and if that moves him to third choice then great we are a stonger team for it.

The reference to proven premier league players is also rubbish. Barton and SWP would fit in this category of proven premier league players and I think that Morison, Pilkington, Hoolahan, Dyer, Allen, Sinclair, Williams, Rangel, Graham etc etc have been far better players than SWP or Brton have for us this season. Don’t you agree?

What would you say is a better midfield partnership of these three: Barton/Howson, Barton/Derry, or Barton/Buzsaky?

    Barton / Faurlin.

But the other two over Barton / Howson any day of the week.

Sorry, but he's not where we should be looking, just because you reckon he's 'attainable'. Unless you're his agent of course, in which case this isn't where you need to be spending your time.

Howson is most efficient as an attacking midfielder in a 4-5-1

Class player and imo better than Derry or Buzsaky but id have derry back at Leeds tomorrow

    No chance

Clayton has been a revelation, was awful when we had him on loan and Leeds fans couldnt understand Grayson signing him but this season he has had a stormer.

id say will be in the england squad very soon, his contract talks have stalled aswell (bates is a tight prick) so you could get him cheap

On the few occasions I've seen him he's been superb and looks a better prospect than Howson or Snodgrass. Is his contract up at the end of the season?

Clayton has 18 months left but we are trying to extend it (because of his form) he will leave this time next year I think, really need bates to pop his clogs
