Any theories why the café next to the Johnny Haynes statue no longer bears his name? I've gone through our ever increasing list of Partners and can't find any of them involved in that particular service industry. And it hasn't been given a brand name - the garish sign outside now announces it as The Cottage Café. First it's his flag (between the Riverside and Hammy End stands), now this!
Tradition appears to mean very little at the cottage these days. Just look at Bolton & PNE where their bygone stars Finney & Lofthouse are idolised.
I think they've changed it back to Haynes Cafe or Haynes Place. There were lots of objections so I think fair play they changed it back. I'll double check on Saturday.
He has a stand named after him, plus a statue (quite rightly). He's hardly being airbrushed out of history or shunned.
When down at the Cottage yesterday went in for a cuppa. It is definitely now called Cafe at the Cottage. The sponsor, displayed on the signage, is Mozzo Coffee, a Hampshire based company. What are the odds on selling the naming rights to the ground being the next revenue earner?
