Well impressed with Laudrup so far in the transfer market and his connections in La Liga. The signings he's made show real promise imo. The Hernandez deal mentioned elsewhere on the board would be phenomenal.

But am I the only one a bit concerned about our foreign quota? I haven't looked up the rules so perhaps someone can enlighten us but we have to keep a certain number of British players on the books don't we? With Allen & Dobbie's departure along with other lesser figures like Butler that have recently left are we at risk here? Speculation still abounds re Sinclair as well.

I see that Laudrup is cheesed off at the cost of bringing in UK players: http://bit.ly/Okn7PC and he's right - just look at Allen who was not worth anywhere near what we got for him though I know others disagree.

So what's the score on Johnny foreigner? Is it something that we should be concerned about? Could we conceivably end up with a largely foreign starting 11 with Brit players on the books just to comply with the rules? Does it matter?

    WP has this - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Premier_League#Foreign_players_and_transfer_regulations

In short "all Premier League clubs must name up to 25 players in their squads for the current campaign, with 8 of the 25 having to be home grown players.". According to the rule a home grown player must have (if foreign) been trained for three years under the age of 21 by a team within the English or Welsh Association.

I guess we'd be getting pretty close to breaking this rule if we ship out more of the homegrown contingent.

It's getting close. Dobbie and Butler didn't count as domesic being Scottish and Irish(?). I posted the other day that we need 8 domestic in a named roster of 25. I think we have: Williams, Britton, Taylor, Dyer, Graham, Routledge, Sinclair .... Then break into one from .... Monk, Tate, Gower, Moore, Lita, Obeng. I think Jazz might just be in the U-21 category but I haven't be enable to find out the cut-off date. Have I fogotten anybody. The rest are either foreign or U-21. We need to name 8 doestic even if some of them just make tea. This tells me we will be buying at least one domestic player as a stuffer or we need to keep one of the second list around and happy ... Or Jazz just makes the cut-off and is old enough to be counted - this would be the ideal situation for us to then trim the squad further based on ability. This explains our interest in Davies.

Cornell would be in our squad I guess as 3rd keeper or will we be loaning him out again?

Thanks for the rules MON, I wasn't sure. <ok>

I know our younger contingent is mainly home-grown but as YJ says we are getting pretty close as far as a 25 man squad is concerned. This could possibly restrict us taking advantage of Laudrup's obviously impressive connections overseas.

if Sinclair goes then it means a lifeline for two of Monk, Tate, Lita, Moore, Gower, Obeng, unless we acquire an English/Welsh player to replace him.
