Great to see my boyhood hero being inducted into our Hall of Fame. Never more deserved.

My dad took me to meet him at a school fayre, probably St Bede's in Peterlee, I didn't have a clue who he was. My only defence was that I was only about 3 or 4 at the time. I suspect that I was used as an excuse to meet him by my dad. :emoticon-0102-bigsm

Never seen him play as he was just a few years before my time but my dad used to wax about him.

Quite a story he is too!

I’d be interested to hear the story, rowley. I hear and see the names but don’t know much about our players from earlier eras.

Thanks for posting mate...brilliant. As a young boy, I loved him! I can remember turning out for my Primary school team gripping the sleeves of my strip in my hand,Johnny style. And,I am so privileged to have witnessed him controlling the match at Old Trafford in '64 against one of the finest sides ever assembled....never to be forgotten.
