Footballer John Terry has paid for the funeral of an eight-year-old Chelsea fan, who recently died from leukaemia.

The former England captain donated £1,600 to the family of Tommi Miller, who he met last year.

He told the Cambridge News he was "totally devastated" to hear he had died.

Tommi's mother Ruth Miller said she was "overwhelmed" by the gesture and is also planning to buy a "special headstone" with the money.

She said the family, who live in Thorpe Way, Cambridge, were "very proud" the footballer remembered him

Not just a ****, as some people think.

Don't worry, he'll get no credit for it.

    More paranoia

Nice gesture. The cynic in me would say it's in his interests to generate some good PR at the moment but that doesn't take away from it being a nice thing to do.

If that were his aim, he would have done this a long time ago. Not like he has been getting negative press attention these last couple of years.
The toddler obviously had made an impact on him, since there are hundreds of thousands of toddlers, dare I say, even Chelsea supporting toddlers, who die on a daily basis.

Like I said, just the cynic in me and you're probably right. The only reason it won't get too widely publicised, if it doesn't, is because benevolent acts by footballers, actors etc. rarely do rather than the result of the ongoing illogical anti-Chelsea conspiracy.

Well there would be loads of people on here having a dig if he had done something wrong. I know it and you know it.

Probably, yes, though that's not relevant. The point is that benevolent acts don't sell papers or generate clicks- most get less than this has, in fact- but bad things do

I'm well aware of that but, with regards to this forum, I'm right.

Yes, but then that would be the case for literally any elite footballer caught doing what Terry has done down the years.

Irrelevant. The point is that he's done something good and only 3 of us have commented.

Well yeah, personally I don't think there is any anti-Chelsea conspiracy.
I think the media partook in an Anti Terry conspiracy a while back, but not for any moral reasons, they would have done the same to any high profile actor, singer, footballer who they could knock down, because like you said, it sells papers.

Look at the Vanessa Peroncel bollocks. page after page, day after day, whole spreads dedicated to the tabloid bullshit.
When she finally admitted she made it all up, the size of the apology the Sun issued to John Terry was hilarious.
Was about 6 lines tucked in a corner somewhere <laugh>

Probably says more about the traffic on the Chelsea forum than anything. I'm sure it would be well received on the Prem board.

What has traffic on the forum got to do with it? All I'm saying is that if Terry did something wrong, this page would be absolutely alive with negative posters. Just admit it.

I don't doubt you're right but it's hardly a situation exclusive to John Terry. Your original point was that he'll "get no credit for it" when he's had more credit for it than others who have done similar.

So? Surely it's a bit more relevant that the media as a whole are commenting on it than the drop in the ocean that is this website. There's a post near the top of the PL board titled 'Rupert seeks threesome superinjunction against Not606 poster'. It's hardly indicative of the world.

Ha, yeah right. I know it's not indicative of the world. I never said it was. The point is that he doesn't get praise on this forum. That's my point.

That's a great thread tbf. Whoever wrote it deserves credit <whistle>

As for John Terry, why does his action need any recognition on any forum, as I'm sure he didn't do it for that??? It's the act itself that matters not what how many "likes" he might get. Fair play to him but every action is judged individually. Personally, I have a much higher regard for someone like Drogba - for the charitable work he's done and considerable contribution he's made - a man with a thoroughly good character imo and one who I've never heard blowing his own trumpet. Same with Ronaldo, a pantomime villain on the pitch but impeccable human being off it, including the positive contribution he's made to the lives of others.

@trebs, but the only reason you know of Drogs and Ronaldo's charity work is because you read about it just like the Terry story.
Gerrard, Carragher and Rooney give many thousands of pounds to the childrens hospital charity here, Craig Bellamy and Dirk Kuyt have their African Trust charities and many others from many other clubs have players doing similar on a larger or smaller scale.
Unless JT personally released the story to the press you can hardly say his gesture wasn't as good or as important as the two you mentioned it was just on a smaller scale but it was certainly nice and kind of him.

    Credit were it's due.<ok>
