John Terry & Anton Ferdinand: Chelsea and QPR discuss handshake By Ben Smith BBC Sport Senior officials from Chelsea and QPR are in talks to diffuse the growing tension surrounding Saturday's West London derby at Loftus Road. . QPR defender Anton Ferdinand will meet with manager Mark Hughes on Thursday having indicated he will not shake John Terry's hand before the match. In July, the Chelsea captain was acquitted of racially abusing Ferdinand in last season's corresponding fixture. Terry is still facing a separate FA charge, which he denies. Ferdinand is also understood to be considering avoiding Ashley Cole in any pre-match line-up after the Chelsea defender testified as a character witness for Terry at the trial in July. While the Premier League is adamant the pre-match handshake should go ahead, senior figures have conceded it could be abandoned if one or both clubs request it in the interest of easing a highly charged situation. Neither club has contacted the Premier League asking to postpone the pre-match handshake yet, but both have spoken to the Metropolitan Police. In July Terry was cleared at Westminster Magistrates' Court of racially abusing Ferdinand during the Premier League game between the West London sides. It was alleged Terry had insulted Ferdinand, describing him as "black" and using extreme sexual swear words. But in reaching a not guilty verdict, chief magistrate Howard Riddle stated it was "possible that what was said was not intended as an insult but rather as a challenge to what he believed had been said to him". The prosecution had to prove beyond reasonable doubt that Terry had used the words in an insulting manner, which it could not. But the FA only has to prove its case "on the balance of probabilities". Fabio Capello resigned as England manager in February after Terry was stripped of the captaincy because of the allegations. Capello's successor Roy Hodgson included Terry in the squad that played at Euro 2012.
We should tell them the whole team will refuse. They can either play him and be embarrassed or drop him. Theres should be no other discussion.
I don't think Anton should be in the starting side anyway but if he gets dropped for Mbia, it will look like we're scared of the scum and protecting him from the abuse.
Pathetic to be honest, hope none of our team shakes Antons hand. I can sort of understand him not shaking JTs hand even though he was found not guilty and Anton didn't even hear him say anything in the first place but to not shake Ash's hand? That's just pathetic and shows what a knobhead Anton is considering it was his brother who racially abused Ash not the other way round
One of two things will diffuse this:- a) The FA actually come to a decision about Terry (now a year in as opposed to the swift justice they handed to Suarez). b) One or the other will retire first. Option b) seems to be the most probable.
Can a black man racially abuse another black man? I'm going to hate Terry based on everything his brother, mother and father have done. This is such a non-issue it's untrue.
Read up on the term 'uncle tom' (which is basically what Rio called Ash because he thinks black men should stick up for black men purely on the basis of skin colour, which to me, is racist). I don't think it was as serious as it was made out to be, but come on Rio should not be tweeting **** like that during a trial that involves his brother AFTER calling Terry a liar.
The real issue with Anton, is City's two goals last time out, hope he's dropped . Also hope Terry doesn't play, so the abuse isn't all about him.
Well he's basically saying 'go against any race other than your own skin colour' so I'd say it's fairly racist.
You may be misunderstanding me, I don't mean that it's racist towards Cole, to him it would be very very insulting.
The real issue with this is the simple fact that the doddering old fools at the F.A. should have dealt with this a loooooooooooooong time ago, if in fact they had dealt with it as quick as they did with Suarez it would now be OLD news and not something that affects a game or games the following season. Because of their ineptitude and dithering at the F.A., instead of discussing the actual match on a thread we are once again dragged into the "did he or did'nt he" argument which in my opinion has now become the sole focus of many on these boards rather than the game itself. Personally speaking i no longer give a flying fart about the whole feckin' thing.......................
He shouldnt play because of the performances, you just know the racist will play though even if its on one leg.
