    Hello everyone,
after around a year of not posting I thought I would get involved again, after reading the various speculation regarding the vacant managerial role, I thought i'd throw another name into the ring, one that has recently been upped to 8/1 on sky bet. John Still. The man has done wonders at arguably the smallest club in the football league, working on a shoe string budget and lifting the club as high as league 1. Harry Redknapp has often spoke of his admiration for Still and I just thought he was one a lot of people were forgetting, personally he would be my preffered choice ahead of all other candidates.

    Thoughts?

    TheBatchinator - welcome back.

Not sure on John Still but then to be honest I have not really felt excited by any rumoured candidates who are within any decent chance of getting the job. My choices have ranged from the purely impossible on the money front, to the absolute ridiculous in football acceptance.

I am looking for a manager that you can gain some positive strength from their personality, that is capable of bringing the young talent through and more importantly keeping them at the club, hence building for the future. That long term dream and not this continued cycle that football has become of selling to the highest bidder.

Strangely my thoughts turn to Gavin Tomlin, can anyone remember how or why that loan deal came about and what part John Still played in that? Which potentially goes against the capabilities of my type of manager.

I understand what you're saying, I agree that perhaps he isn't the best suited but for me is still a more promising choice than some of the others listed. Tomlin didn't hit it off at Daggers, that happens in football and can't always be put down to the manager to blame. There is no reason why Still can't help the young players progress, maybe not as well as say Mark Robson who I hear was excellent with youngsters during his time at the club. Nevertheless he is a in my opinion a suitable candidate, and far more preferable than the likes of Allen, Dennis Wise amongst others.
Will be certainly one of the more intriguing appointments in recent years at Gills, to see what sort of manager Scally see's as the person to take us up. The disciplinarian approach of Martin Allen? Perhaps Steve Constantine...I hear Andy Scott has been interviewed also but i'm sceptical of him...

I still think Martin Allen is best suited .He comes without a back room team unlike a lot of managers, so that will probably ,coupled with his discipline as per Stimson, appeal to Scally.

John Still is a class act, he would be on my short list for sure. Tactically very astute and has lots of contacts.

Back in February when i first stated my desire for Hessy to leave i was asked who would be a better replacement, my top answer was John Still and I still think that now, however I don't think the Chairman would agree,

He would be a great fit for the Gills, clearly gets the best out of his players which is exactly what we need. I think we will end up with Robson, but I would love Still to come.

John Still would always be on my list but he would not leave Dag & Red, he loves it there, he is such a great manager and is so good at looking for talent.

I stand by that brb, I also think Steve Tilson or Micky Adams will do a good job as well.
