Wonder what the chances are of us signing the lad in the summer. Quality player on his day and has played in the last four games surely if he can stay fit till the end of the season there must be a canny chance of him signing for us this summer. Think the lad has been unlucky this year injured his shoulder against Stoke which ruled him out for a good while then his ankle from a miss timed Kevin Davies tackle. IMO sign him up
He's among the best defenders in the EPL when fully functioning - there was a thread on here earlier and the consensus said he was injury prone but worth a couple of million
I don't know whether we agreed a fee when we had the option to sign him;I would love him to sign but I think that it has to be a fee of less than ã5,000,000-even that may be a bit high with his injury record.
We all agree that Mensah is an absolute Warrior at the back, however, I have to ask the question, is he worth carrying through the season in the hope that we can get 15-20 appearances from him per season? The difficulty that all clubs now face is the 25 man squad restriction. IMO, signing injury prone players is a dangerous road to go down, because as we have seen this season and last, we do pick up more than our fair share of injuries We need players in the squad that are ready to play when called upon, not players that have to be dragged off the physio's table to make up the numbers. I really admire John Mensah as a player and a man. He was influential in bringing Asa to the club, something I'm sure we are all very grateful for, but can we take the risk of signing him permanently, knowing that his playing minutes on the pitch are going to be limited? My heart says "yes" but my head says "No"
i've said it before and i'll say it again, great player but we'll never have a settled back 4 with him around so no thanks. shame like
Get the rose tinted goggles off lads he played in the last 4 defeats where the defence on the whole were poor not a good advert for Mensah or the defence for that matter, I'm with the minority here a good player but doesn't do it regularly enough or play enough. Agree he has had his share of strange injuries which were not connected to his own fragile back but we just can't afford the gamble on him. We need a strong CB who will be there for the majority of games not a strong CB who is there for a few games now and then.
I wonder if we could keep on a 1-year retainer, give him the operation to sort his back out (ask any osteopath if this relates to other injuries) We might be able to get 3-to-4 injury free seasons out of him. At the moment he's on a pay as you play deal and had a tremendous game against the Goons last week HE IS WORTH IT
