    From the Daily Mail...

Newcastle United have been rocked by the news that Mike Ashley's trusted lieutenant and one of his two board members John Irving is quitting the club.

The finance director is well thought of within St James’ Park and is third in command behind Ashley and managing director Lee Charnley.

But Sportsmail understands that Irving has become frustrated with life at the club and will now head to a similar role at Newcastle International Airport.

One of the Unholy Alliance decides to f*** off.

But where does he rack up next - NIA.
Brilliant, no doubt, we can expect some cost cutting at the Airport now - loading your own baggage onto the planes will probably be a good start.

    Good riddance.

Again, it's almost impossible to describe NUFC. Surely Irving's the only fcker doing his job as FD? One would argue that as he's left voluntarily he's not quite part of the problem, though certainly likely has had his input (see 'Alan Pardew').

That said, it's a fairly astonishing turn of events. Can anyone get a comment out of the guy? Maybe Newcastle Airport met his buy out clause.

EDIT: Just read that his assistant, David Gilroy, has left to join Manchester City. We have a board of one and no-one in charge of finances. It is becoming so farcical that it either cannot really be happening, though if it is it's utterly, completely hilarious.

Mark Douglas is of the opinion Charnley felt this (protests, etc.) was 'just another storm to ride out'. Douglas also doesn't feel this FD thing is a big thing, but IMO 50% of the board left and he took his assistant. We've not got an accountant, basically. What seems suspect to me is BOTH leaving at the exact same time, but not for the same job(s). Are they feeling pressure in home life? Possible/probable. Have they been asked to do things they disagree with? Possible. Are they part of a sea-change at NUFC? Unlikely, they left voluntarily. Will they be replaced by more of Ashley's in-crowd? Almost certainly.

This is purely bad news, we just have to wait and see how bad.

I wonder which members of staff will be attending the next fans forum. Might not be any left at this rate.

Lol, I told you it would be bad news - looking increasingly likely that Derek Llambias and Barry Leach will be at the club!!!!
