Joey Barton has taken to Twitter to describe the Queen and the monarchy as 'an absurd concept', in the run-up to the Platinum Jubilee. Bristol Rovers manager Joey Barton brands the Queen and the monarchy 'an absurd concept' - Bristol Live (bristolpost.co.uk) I have to say that I do have some sympathy with his view. Nothing against the Queen, she's led a formidable life of duty, but in my opinion the monarchy is an outdated institution. It won't happen, but I'd like to see a transition to a republic after she goes.
I totally believe in the Monarchy when I look around we have stability and the amount of money it brings into the country in tourism is immense.
It’s the castles, heritage and stately homes which bring in the tourists. No-one actually expects to meet the Queen (apart from a few Americans!) when they visit. In fact, France gets more tourists than we do and their lot met with Madam Guilottine a few centuries ago! I realise that it won’t happen in my lifetime and that the monarchy currently enjoys the support of the majority, but I can’t see there being a British monarchy at the end of this century.
I am one of the old ones. I believe in the Monarchy. I think that our Queen is a wonderful example of all that is good. I am not so certain about her successor.Re our manager, I think he has every right to hold his views, but he has no right to spend his time persuading others to change to suit his views. The same goes for all ,left, right, pink, green or yellow, let alone sexual thoughts. Keep them close to your chest and let change come because it is needed
I see good points to both sides of the argument. I particularly don't care either way. I just don't like Barton opening his mouth about non football matters as I always cringe before hearing/reading his opinion on something as worried it will be controversial and not look good on the club.
I don’t mind him voicing his opinion on stuff - that comes with the territory when you employ Joseph Barton. I just don’t want him to hit anyone (else) whilst he’s our manager
To be honest, I can think of quite a few people I wouldn't mind him him sticking one on, in the least. The key is for him not to get caught doing it!!
Equally, you could of course easily switch the title of this thread to "Monarchy brands Joey Barton an "absurd concept""
It was today. Well suppose to be today but it was adjourned yet again. Now will take place between October 31st for 2 days.
